Overcast
Total Time = 1h 53m 20s
Overall Rank = 571/983
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 62/77
Event warmup:

jogged a little, wandered around, looked at the waves.
Swim
  • 16m 8s
  • 500 yards
  • 03m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

The waves were intimidating, but once I got past the breakers, i felt comfortable. I wasn't swimming fast, I didn't train in the water much, so i just wanted to feel good getting out of the water. I felt great getting out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Attack the waves more aggressively, i was scared, but they weren't that bad.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

This was a good transition for me, except my shot blocks fell out of my jersey pocket while I was running, so i had to go back for them. I was glad I had a bucket of water to rinse my feet, that was a suggestion I read somewhere on BT
Bike
  • 1h 06m 24s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 16.84 mile/hr
Comments:

I dropped my water bottle and pulled off to the side to run back for it, and then after the turnaround, my chain fell off as I switched to my big ring. After getting it back on, i felt good. I passed people on every incline. The bike portion was much less difficult than I imagined.
What would you do differently?:

I ate way too many shot blocks. i probably only needed a couple in such a short race, but I didn't want to bonk and as a result I started the run with a cramp.
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

I tried running with no socks and it went fine.
Run
  • 27m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

i started the run with a cramp that lasted for the majority of the run. i also had to stop at the portopotties at the top of the ramp and I had to pee for far too long. I felt strong at the end. Without cramps, i know I could've moved faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Celebrated with my family and friends. I have lost 60 pounds this year and i felt amazing. The last tri, i did was my first in April 2008. Now that I finished my master's degree, I'll have more time to train and I hope to do some more races next year.

Event comments:

i had a lot of fun on at Camp Pendleton, I'll be back, maybe for the olympic distance. this was my first sprint distance. I think i like the longer race.

Hi;

Doing this race in 2011 after missing out in 2010, waited too long to commit and registration closed. I enjoyed reading your recap of your experiences. Hope your still going strong in 2011. Good luck...

Regards;

Gregg
