Anybody else considering this race. I have done this several times in the past and thought it was very well run for a smaller race. The setting is pretty nice and gives a great view of the foothills on one part of the bike.

I am going to do this Tri. This will be my first and I am a little nervous about it.

I wouldn't be too nervous. I'm willing to bet over half the people there are doing their first triathlon. It ends up being a fun day for everyone. My favorite part is the kids triathlon. I'm glad they do it after the older athletes are done so they don't make the adults look bad. Have fun and good luck

I am now officially a Triathlete. I actually did better than I thought I was going to. I finished it in 1:18

Experior - 2011-09-19 8:23 PM Looks enticing, but I can't.  But I'll 'rebump' for you!

Perfect place to try out the new bike. You can see how well it does on rolling hills. Almost certain top 5 finish (really fast guys are going to Augusta on Sun) Offer for free lodging 5 minutes from the starting line. My understanding is the winner get gift certificates to OnOn Tri which may offset the cost of entry.

Tough to pass up

Tough to pass up

Well, now, that is hard to pass up.  So here's the thing.  Supposedly I'm going to run a local 5K on that Saturday.  I sort of half said that yes, I'd run it.  On the other hand, I didn't really, truly, commit.  And yes, a tri would be more interesting.  On the third hand, there's the driving.  On the last hand, yes, it would be really cool to give the new bike a real spin.  Hmmm.  Now you've got me all confused.

A real question:  would signing up the morning of race day be a problem, as far as you know?

I don't think AM registration is a problem. I will check with the RD tomorrow.

Well, now you've gone and done it.  I spent all day thinking about how fun it would be to do a tri this weekend, so I'll be driving up to Pickens at 4am on Saturday...

See you there.

I am heading down from Ohio to visit with some old teammates and attend the Wofford game. Saw this on the schedule and registered. This will be my second tri and first with my new road bike. Any word on what the bike and run courses are like? Hope to drive them when I get in town tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

I don't know that area specifically, but in general around there it is rolling.  I just mapped the bike and run courses online and looking at the elevations, I'd say that yes, they are rolling.  It doesn't look like there is anything super-steep -- but not really much flat either.  The swim appears to be flat.

Hope to see you there.

Look for routes at zip code 29671.

The bile is 1500 meters of climbing over 12 miles. It starts as a slight downhill grade out of the Y. Sharp turn to the right and minimal incline up to a 4 way intersection. Sharp left goes downhill by a golf course. 2 rollers with the second one slightly steeper with a slight incline up to the next 4 way where you turn right, Flat for about 2 miles then a dip with a moderate climb. Pass though a light then start downhill on the fastest part of the ride. Almost 1 mile descent. You start up at the bottom and then take a sharp right. There is an old boarded-up church/shack and cemetery were you take a right. (For some bizarre reason they  don't always have this turn very well marked). After this sharp right you continue down to a fork where you turn right and head uphill. This is where the suffering starts. It is fairly steep and doesn't appear to be long but when you reach the top you still have a long steady incline for another mile. The road then flattens out. This turns into 3 rollers and then a sharp right at the hwy to go downhill into the Y.

The run is essentially an out and back with slight separation at the start and finish. Slight downhill going out with slight uphill coming back. The last segment is a fairly steep hill coming into the Y.

As long as you are researching the routes you my take notice that Pickens is not very close to Wofford. Clemson/FSU would be a lot closer.

I really enjoyed this race. Small turnout but a nicely run event. The bike course was a lot of fun. I got to meet some great people too. Hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did.

Just found this thread.  I did this race last weekend, it was my first triathlon and it was a lot of fun.  My boys also did the youth tri afterwards.  Can't wait to do another one.
