pennyminpin - 2010-09-28 9:34 PM I was trying on wetsuit today and it felt a bit tight.  They told me they stretch out and form to your body after a few uses.  Is that true or just a sales pitch?
Thanks

Little of both...a wetsuit WILL fit tight in the store.  They loosen up a bit once you get in the water.  It's been said that you need to 'moisten' a new wetsuit (or one that hasn't been used in awhile) by soaking it in the tub for awhile before putting it on.  I guess this allows the suit to retain a bit of moisture, thus making it more supple.

Some of the less expensive models do not have a tear resisting fabric which is important for those folks who don't have short ugly stubby nails.

Take a look too at the ProMotion wetsuits for reference.  They have in between sizes, I called them and based on my physical size they recommended the size (ML) and it's been perfect.  Good sales going on right now and several BT'er have them.  I have the Powerglide sleeveless and if I do ever want to consider even colder water swims (done 68F OWS in it just fine) then they have a separate top with sleeves to wear over it.

You're doing the right thing to get it now and get in the water with it.

Sorry to go off topic but I have a Senergy full body wet suit. It fits me fine but some water does enter the suit down the back of my neck. I have tried to close the neck tighter but I still get some water. Is this normal?

On another note I am looking to pick up a sleevless suit and xterra has some very good deals anyone have one and care to comment?

Sorry, I fell off topic.   Does anyone prefer sleeveless to sleeves.  Background is I am not a very good swimmer (that will change by next spring) more of the sinking drowning type.  I have no plans to swim cold water since I do this for what I say is fun but that is because I haven't figured out how to swim and win yet.  I will probably have to swim practice swims in chilly water in the spring to get used to it all.  What would be more beneficial to me.
Thanks

OK......none of this "$450" stuff, either....lol.

I've got a short window, here.  IF I'm gonna try to get ready for a spring race, I need to hurry up and get a wetsuit, now, and get my practice in, this fall (as far as getting used to/over the initial shock of swimming in a wetsuit).

I see the prices are all over the board.  What do I get with the $650 models that I don't with the $200 models?

Well I originally bought a $650 wetsuit. Figured since I hated swimming in one, better get the top of the line.

Guess what? I hate swimming in it. Didn't make a bit of difference.

What I realized is that I don't like my shoulders being covered. So I bought a used rental, sleeveless wetsuit from my bike shop, for $75. Guess what? I love it. Fits great. I can swim fine in it.

So for me, a $75 won out over the $650 wetsuit.

OH, and that expensive wetsuit is now going for $200 brand new. I can't even sell it for half as much!

Thanks for all of your responses.  I worked out a deal today with TJ (thanks, pal) on a B70.

Looking forward to getting it and getting used to it.

Thanks, again.

Yes, this is normal. A wet suit is no meant to kep you dry. You will get a layer of water in your suit, some people will actually pull out the neck and let in water when they get in the water (I do) . You body will heat the water and it will keep you warm.
