Subject: Wheel cover with non-aero front wheel?
Is there any reason I can't run a wheel cover on the rear wheel with a non-aero front wheel?  Would it be better to wait to get the wheel cover until after I have an aero wheel for the front?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Go for it.

Yes it will have a positive effect (unless its blistering winds and the bike gets uncomfortable to control...). Just keep in mind that it is much more beneficial with an aero front wheel and an aero back wheel... so after the wheelcover for your rear wheel, set some money aside for a decent aero front wheel that you use for racing... a very good and economical combination.

Back in the '80s, an aero wheel was just 28 spokes, radially laced (front only), thin gage, MAYBE not a box-section rim... It wasn't 'til the late '80s that rear disks were even available, and then they were $5K or so. You didn't see a lot of them. When wheel covers came out, they were showing up on bikes everywhere. I had a set, and could easily feel the difference, even with a 36 spoke wheel up front.

I say do it.
