Subject: Storage dilemma for tri bike
Hi! I have a 2010 Specialized Transition Comp. I am having a slight dilemma trying to store things for training rides and will also have the issue when I begin racing over an oly distance (first 70.3 will be next year.)
I prefer to have nothing in between my tri bars, so I chose to go with the Xlab Sonic Wing rear hydration and it came with a storage bag. Well, the way that I like my bottle cages angled causes the storage bag to droop and sit way too low, which I imagine negates much of the aerodynamic benefits. On race day, I can simply velcro the tube to the cage because I already have the nut that stores the two CO2 and adapter, but for training, I like to have more "stuff". Lets put it this way, I can't pack a suitcase for three nights under fifty pounds! lol! Must have been a boyscout in a previous life or something.
A bento box doesn't work too well on my bike because of the way the gear/brake cables enter into the top tube. I am going to try to attach pics...haven't quite figured that part out yet.
Thanks for any suggestions/help!
Jen

When I rode the transition, I reversed the bento box and attached it to the seatpost/top tube.

If it is just for training you need to carry more stuff, why not use your jersey pockets?

I tape my nutrition to my top tube in overlapping style, Aerobottle on the front, bottle exchanges in the rear

As for the turbo wing, I put my straps in the rear and wedge the Co2 beside it:

The Wedgie looks like a great solution. You think it's be hard to get to the water bottle at that angle without looking down? Also, I see that it adhere's with double sided tape? Do they make something to remove that stuff without damage to your bike in the event you wanted to change it eventually? hmmmmmm

I was waiting for Lego to chime in on this one but I think that their representation of how airflow goes over a bike is not at all accurate.

Interested to see if it would in fact work on any bike out there.

well if you put a bottle cage in the front you could always use an empty bottle to store stuff in..thats what I am doing for IMAZ..front aero bar double wide aerobottle. two cages up front and hydrotail in back. Im particularly slow on the bike but this way I can carry about 5hrs worth and use one cage with an empty bottle to bring my kitchen sink..if you know what I mean!

I used an empty bottle to store my crap for IMWI. But I have two cages on the bike plus two on the back so I had room to spare an bottle for sherpa duty.

Hi TriJC,

The Wedgie uses an automotive grade 2 way tape, but it is the medium strength and designed not to harm paint.  This was a key point when we did our field testing, because the paint used on carbon fiber bicycle frames is softer than what is used on metal frames.  So far I've installed/removed the Wedgie 8 times on my own bike this summer without any problems.

Best regards and fast times,
  Tom

Hi jhouse4,

We had A2 Wind tunnels design the test protocol and conduct the testing.  To assure indepentent testing (and no tampering), we were not allowed in the wind tunnel (we could watch the testing on a TV monitor).  You can see the air flow and review the results:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coUFBidpBT8

Key to the testing was to find and report the results through the different Yaw angles (cross winds).

We designed the Wedgie to fit as many bicycle frames as possible (focusing on the tri-bike geometry), and tested it on 27 different makes and models.  If you would like to check the fit, we've designed a "Fit Kit" which is a paper version of the Wedgie's tool box that we can send you.  The paper "Fit Kit" allows for easy/inexpensive shipping.

Best regards and fast times,
  Tom

Do what most women do when they need cr4p stored, give it to someone else to carry.

Hope my wife doesn't read this.
