Hi Nick! Welcome to BT!
Haven't done S'pore 70.3, but have been to all parts of the course, know a lot of people who have, and have read some race reports.
You're probably going to be terribly disappointed, if your first half was Port Macquarie.
First, it is wicked hot and humid in Singapore. Punishingly so.
(This is coming from someone who trains in similar weather and is used to it and actually likes it
).
The swim stinks. It's crowded, the water is dirty, it tastes like diesel, and it takes a very long time to get out there and back in narrow lanes.
(Look at the "fast" swim times for S'pore 70.3--they're in the 40-minute range. That's ridiculously slow for front-of-pack swimmers
).
The bike is flat, flat, flat, but it's also multiple loops, which gets boring quickly. I'm not sure how many loops they have planned for this year, but one year it was SEVEN.
The run, I hear, is actually the best part of it--rather pretty, but there are also long sections which are industrial and without shade, and by then it's REALLY hot.
It's one of those "do it if it's convenient" races, but it is by no means a destination triathlon.
Another option is an exciting new race in Thailand, on April 24, which is 4k swim, 128k bike, 30k run. It is, however, in its inaugural year, so that's always risky.

(may still be, I'm not sure
) Embrunman Triathlon in France, which is probably one of the best and toughest long-course triathlons in the world.
I'd also like to invite you to introduce yourself in BT's Southeast Asia forum--for triathletes and interested parties and information on the region.
