Comments:

What a great race! It was so relaxing for me. No thinking about the laundry that needs to be washed, the dishwasher that needs to be emptied, etc. I had to concentrate on placing my feet in the right places. I LOVE TRAIL RACES.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. My only expectation was to finish. I thought that I was doing well until the 2nd place winner for the 9 mile race passed me just shy of the finish line :-)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My current fitness level.

Event comments:

It was my first trail race. I thought the whole event was well run, well marked, the volunteers were wonderful, the course was challenging but not impossible. The trail was well-maintained.

Congrats on your first trail race, welcome to the fun!  This is a good one (as it always sells out!) but the terrain is a little more brutal than most with all those rocky sections.  I love trail runs not only because of the challenge of having to concentrate on where you're going, but the atmosphere is also a lot more casual and people are not so serious.

Some of those 9 milers were just freakishly fast though.....

I know!  When I crossed the finish line, I went up to the guy who placed 2nd overall and told him that I was feeling pretty good until he passed me.  He laughed and was gracious.  I would agree with your comment on the atmosphere, I didn't see any running Divas :-)  My husband and I want to do the next trail race in the series and the Lookout Mountain Trail Run in TN.  I'm hooked!
