Pre-race routine:

Was up at 4:00am to get ready to head down to catch the bus at the NYC Public Library. Luckily there were a few of us heading that way so Nick rented a car service to take us there. I rode down to the start with Grant and Melissa. We were the VERY first bus to arrive at the start!
Event warmup:

For 5 hours I sat wrapped up to Grant (another runner from Wilmington) in a sleeping bag that he had brought. I had brought extra hand warmers so I gave those to him and luckily Dunkin Donuts was handing out fleece hats so we grabbed one of those each to put on overtop of the hats we already had on!! Grant and I were both in wave one (orange)which started the race at 9:40am. About 8:45am we took our bags to the UPS trucks to drop off and then headed over to the correls. We arrived at 8:57am and found out we too late to get into our wave so we had to wait until wave 2. So...I officially started at 10:10am

Comments:

I came into this race just hoping to have a decent run. I had done three 20 milers in preparation for this which was the most I have ever done in training for a marathon. My goal was to run a Boston Qualifying time...I would have been happy with a 3:40. My next goal was to hit my PR of 3:23:19. Best case scenerio I wanted to run a PR...and I did so I was very pleased. I felt great the first 1/2 of the marathon. I hit the 13.1 marker at about 1:32. I sort of felt like this may have been too fast but I was ok with that hoped that if I couldn't keep it up that at least I had banked some time. By mile 16 my right knee was started to bother me so I decided to concentrate on each mile as I came to it. This really helped me get through mentally and by the time I hit mile 21 I felt like I could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and just put my head and ran. It was a great feeling to enter the last 5km knowing I was on target for a new PR.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...I felt like I did all that I could. I drank WAY more than I have ever drank in a marathon (probably 20 out of 25 aid stations) and I think this really helped me.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked down the long line to get my bag and then walked all the way home from 86th Street back down to W 70th to meet my hubby Scott.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing...I gave it my all!

Event comments:

Great race...another one to check off my list!
