Water temp was 73 degrees this morning.

Water temp of 73-75 would be absolutely Perfect!  Gettin close to Race Day now!

Holy cow... Anderson is only 4 days away. Is it too late to start training?

+1 on the water temp. Over the past month, I've gotten used to low to mid 60s, so low to mid 70s is going to feel great!

I can't believe the race is Sunday!!! I feel good about my swim and my run is coming along surprisingly well. I am a bit undertrained on the bike, though. Oh well. Let the good times roll!

He's prolly talking about the Pros.  Just tuck in behind Magali Tisseyre on the run and you'll do fine.  Just 48 hours til race time now.

So who enjoyed getting the begeezus blown out of them on the bike course today? The winds were angry. And I did not appreciate the last zig zag up the hill in the park area at the coliseum before the finish. That was cruel and unusual punishment! Challenging course to say the least. Glad I did it and survived

barqhead - 2011-10-09 9:18 PM And I did not appreciate the last zig zag up the hill in the park area at the coliseum before the finish.

I seriously thought I was going to start crying on that left turn within reach of the chute.  Otherwise, fun course and great event.

The Family absolutely loved it!  We did the Little Rev Adventure Race on Saturday and came in 2nd.  My two boys had a blast.  My wife wants me to do another Rev3 race Next year!  I didn't really have it on the Schedule, but we'll see.

I moved from Ohio to WNC mountains about three years ago and I had just about forgotten how nasty winds like that could be. Crazy! Every time I turned a corner, expecting to get some relief, bam... another cross/headwind. I just kept telling myself it was the same for everybody, put my head down and keep on pedalin'. Totally wiped me out for the run though.

As for that last zig-zag, I went out and rode the run course the day before, so I knew about it. When I came up the road, just before the left turn, I started joking with the spectators and course marshalls... "Everybody turn around and don't look... I'm gonna go straight. Nobody needs to know!" I figured I'd give 'em a good laugh so they wouldn't know I really felt like I was gonna die. Foot in mouth

It was a tough tough day but I really enjoyed the race, and the whole event in general. Congrats to everyone!

Wanted to get this thread going again.  Signed up for this race as my first HIM and wanted to see who else has signed up already, or planning on signing up?

Nervous and excited at the same time.  I hear the course can be pretty rough, but also hear REV3 does a dynamite job of putting on a race.  Started my training plan 3 weeks ago for a 16 week plan and can't wait for the end result.

I'll be doing this race as my first Olympic; I'm about a month into the 16-week 3x Balanced Training Plan. I've heard good things about the race, really excited!

I'm in for the HIM.  I did it last year and the course is tough but fair (at least I thought).  Don't blow it on the bike and the run will feel like rolling hilly, blow it on the bike and the run will feel like mtn climbing.  Ask me how I know :D

signed up for the Oly, really wanted to do the HIM, but i want to have at least one good Oly before making the jump... and the one i did so far was a disaster.

I guess i need to move my training rides a bit further south now.

when does everyone plan to break out the wetsuits for OWS?  the temperature is much cooler in the lake than it was a month ago and I'm just curious how much prep everyone hopes/plans to get in before then with them.

i know people will be out at clemson with them next week to get ready for augusta.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I plan on wearing mine in The Dam Tri in a couple weeks, that'll be a nice warmup, but I'd like to get some open water practice before then.

Once you get used to swimming in a wetsuit I don't think there is as much benefit to training in it. I'm not a coach or an expert swimmer so this is only my personal opinion from what I have heard over the years.  My fastest times have come while aggressively doing pool intervals in training and using my wetsuit primarily on race day as a crutch. I will use the wetsuit if the air is really cold in the morning air for comfort but otherwise still go without for training swims

Was looking at my age group's results from last year, and boy, it looks like you have to hold back on the last half of the bike.  If I'm looking at it right, a lot of people had an increase of average speed by about 3mph.

rode the loop from the park start to back by the park today.  from the elevation mapping you start a very long downward trend starting at mile 13/14.  it's almost completely uphill from T1 til mile 5 though, and then rollers in between there and the descending section.

it's like "hey i've been averaging 30mph for the last few miles and feeling great!" /start hill climb of few miles. rinse and repeat.

there were a few roads on the loop that you ride twice to get back to the park that i thought would be gradual downhill descents on the way back, but seemed slightly up hill then too; just seem uphill in both directions.

edit: i rode the oly loop not the HIM loop.  they change course at mile 11ish, so the first 5 being uphill still holds true for all of you too.
