2001 Volvo S60, I've only had it a few months, but love this car. A lot more room than the Integra...may she rest in peace or pieces.

Volkswagen Rabbit Cabriolet. My bike goes in, by putting the top down and then loading it from the top. It's a good incentive to not haul my bike around, but just to ride there instead.

Max There is a guy that comes to our Thursday night crits that hauls his bike on his motorbike. He has a custom bike rack for it.

Also, what do you guys think of the new FJ Cruiser?  It's kind of a throwback to the old Land Cruisers of the 60's and 70's and they're already in production.

It looks quite a bit like the old Land Cruisers. Cool. I never knew that they were making new ones. I think that you should get one.

Wookie Says: If that is the most narrow minded ridiculous thing you have ever heard then I guess you have never listened to a politician or Fox news.

Wook,
If you would have read my post correctly, I said 'in a while', not 'the most rediculous thing I've ever heard'. It is clear where your political feelings lie. It is also clear that you let your politics drive your emotions, lending you to make idiotic remarks. Have you ever considered that, maybe you have a chip on your shoulder towards those evil SUV'ers and you treat them a certain way as to fullfill your expectations. You need to lighten up, accept everybody as they are, and celebrate their differences as diversity. IF you see yourself as truly enlightened, and think that Fox News is crap, then don't act like them. Go to an SUV'er and see if you can be friemds with them........I dare you.

The Swiss Army Knife of cars/SUV's...2004 Honda Element. You can haul, sleep, stow, dress in it, wipe it down and sweep it out. Good gas mileage and it's a Honda so you can drive the wheels off.

I love sub compacts - the whole SUV thing just makes me cringe. I have always equated SUV's with bullys and I've never met an SUV owner who failed to validate that impression.

Wook, I usually like your posts, but this is the most narrow-minded rediculous thing I have heard in long time. It's generalizations like this that shows one's ignorance.

I'm with Wookie. Almost every time some idiot nearly mows me down, s/he is driving an SUV and apparently has no idea how big it is or how to handle it. I know a woman who drives an Expedition because - she admits - she's not a very good driver and it makes her feel safer. It sure doesn't make ME or anyone else feel safer that she's careening around in that monster. I wouldn't drive one of those things if you paid me.

I think it's like this: if you give an idiot a gun, they're gonna kill somebody. If you give an idiot a really big gun, they're gonna kill a lot of people. But don't blame the gun, cause there are people out there that know how to use them.

Holy crap. I think this is a sign of the apocolypse. I just used a gun analogy. Someone in a big SUV kill me now.

I have always had pickup trucks. I can throw my bike in back and take off. I have a motorcycle lock and chain that I wrap around it so if anyone wants to steal it good luck on getting through the chain. The only irritating thing is that some people will throw their garbage in my truck bed.

I just think that there is no way there are more 'bullies' or 'bad drivers' in SUV's than any other kind of car. I believe that perception starts with the individual's preconceived notion. If you hate SUV's you are going to say 'look, here comes one of those SUV idiots', then scrutinze EVERYTHING they do. Whereas the 'idiot' in the Subaru Outback gets a pass, because you like their car.

Acura MDX - lots of room for the three kiddos, room in the back for all of our gear, room on top for more gear, room on the back for 4 bikes. 22mpg is nice, too. Love it!

I've had always driven Volvos until I got the MDX. I've always had a station wagon so this isn't a huge change for me.

2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ. It gets horrible gas mileage (15 mpg average), but has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned and it is always fun to drive. Plus it drives anywhere!

On the contrary, I normally don't see SUV drivers prior to being nearly run off the road by them.

There was an article in the New Yorker a year or so ago about the marketing analysis for catering to an SUV driver, something about how to communicate with the "primal mind" of the consumer. What I remember about the SUV drivers profile was "very concerned about how others view them" and "insecure". Not that all SUV drivers fit this profile, but they're successfully selling SUVs by playing to image concerns and insecurities.

I think the problem is less people driving SUV's and more people driving and yapping on their cell phones.  Put the damn phone down and drive.  If you need to talk, get a handsfree headset.

I'm tempted.  They won't be released until next year but it gives me plenty of time to save up for a down payment!

I will stipulate that every time I see someone driving a Hummer, I think "IDIOT". I can't help it.

Also, full disclosure: I drive a 1981 Toyota Celica hatchback GT 5-speed with the world's greatest stereo. I love this car so much I will drive it until it decomposes around me. 191,000 and going strong baby.
