jmk-brooklyn - 2010-12-01 12:47 PM So we should only concentrate on profiling people who belong to groups associated with terror groups that have already attacked us?

No, we should concentrate on groups who have intent to do us harm.  I'm sure most would agree that the IRA has little beef with the US (if fact they have some support here).

It's the opposite of being reactive.  It's being proactive.

And aren’t all of the groups who “intend to do us harm” comprised of Muslims of Middle-eastern descent? How does that distinction alleviate the problem of profiling based on race/national origin? On the contrary, it seems to me that it focuses on one group of people to the exclusion of all others.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case.

So, you’re outraged about body scans and pat-downs and what an erosion of our personal liberties they represent, but you’re fine with other American citizens receiving disparate treatment on the basis of their race?

Am I misunderstanding you?

Yes you are.  I've made my point several times in this thread.  I'm not going to make it again.

... and I will add that there are numerous examples in this country of people receiving disparate treatment because of their race that is not only tolerated but approved by the government.

I've always said as soon as good looking guys with dreamy, brown eyes start causing problems, I'd have no issue getting an extra pat down.  If simple stats can show that I'm more likely cause an act of terror, I'll deal with it taking longer to get on a plane.
