And here Trinnas has provided a perfect example of the logical fallacy of reducto ad absurdium.
I present legitimate facts about practices that were advocated for years by the medical and scientific community that later were found to have tragic consequences and you try to twist it to the ridiculous.

No, she actually presented a very valid point to which you have no response apparently.  There's nothing twisted or ridiculous about what she posted.  I would actually accuse you of posting ridiculous things given your examples.

Were any of my examples in error?
Did the science and medical community advocate the practices I used as examples?
Did each and every one of them result in tragtic consequences?
This is the part where you say "Wow Verga really did raise some valid concerns."

No, this is the part where I say that you're comparing 1940's knowledge and science to modern day knowledge and science.  You're doing exactly what you accuse her of doing which is providing extreme examples to dispute a point being made.  Nobody disputes that there have been previous practices invalidated over time, but there is a HUGE difference between what was known then and what is know now.  Do you really think that knowledge (or lack thereof) of what cigarettes do to you as known 50-70 years ago is at all comparable to what we know about the flu virus and vaccine right now?  As trinnas said, why do you believe anything modern science puts forth if you do believe that?

ETA Aside from her obvious joking last sentence.

What you don't believe me that armageddon will be brought on by tomato soup??????

OK how about the alignment with the galactic center will cause a radiation burst to be transmitted through all cell phones.  Any one on a cell phone at the time will have their latent zombie gene activated and will turn into zombies unleashing hades on earth.

I might get crazy and dip my grilled cheese in tomato soup. But I might catch the flu if I did. Becasue I got the shot 6 weeks ago and it could happen.

I was with you on this one, but you know as well as I do that there is no latent zombie gene.  It is an infectious agent that vectors through human bites.

Ah, flu season.  The time we all argue about the efficacy of getting vaccinated and how the evil drug companies and doctors are trying to poison us with mercury and ignorance.  Where is that popcorn?  Any kettle corn in there?

Ha!..... Pfft..... What do you think all those introns are for, it is your latenet Zombie DNA waiting to be activated by that infectious agent.  Activation can also occur due to strong radiation similar to the transformation of the hulk just not as bulky so your jeans don't fall off.

Seriously though, I got my flu shot. Can't visit my in-laws for xmas without it. BIL has cancer. Hope all of you non-shot/free rider folks never need to get a shot for the same reason. It sucks.

Can I share the cheesy popcorn. Love that stuff.

I have been enjoying a bag of lime/sea salt microwavable popcorn while lurking through this thread....surprisingly good (the popcorn).

Oh, and no shots for me.  Got the flu in August, for the first time that I can remember, while I was in Florida for work (or did I catch it in Vegas the week before...I'm not sure).  But I figure now I'm good for the year.

Oh you beat me to it. I was just gonna post some popcorn.

And as for me? Yes, I get the flu shot every year. It's a requirement of my job. If I get the flu, I could kill the very tiny lives that I  am trying to save.........

Now, extra sea salt on mine please.
Carry on with the silliness.
