I guess I have to be the different one.  Nope.  Never have.  Don't ever plan to.

I don't have any political or ethical issues with them.  I just do not see the need considering I have made it 36 years without one.  It may help that FL typically does not suffer the flu as badly as northern states.

You may now attack...

Yes, always. I ride public transportation every day and come in contact with strangers every day as part of my job. Seems only prudent.

But even if that weren’t the case, I’m not afraid of needles or allergic to eggs, and I’ve never had a bad reaction to the shot, so I don’t see the downside to getting one.

That's where I stand. I appreciate that modern science gives us a lot of effective, yet odd remedies for every day situations, but injecting myself with one strain of the flu to prevent all strains of flu still smacks of craziness to me. Even the CDC is skeptical as to its efficacy.

no, I work from home and my partner gets one so my exposure is pretty minimal.  Course I might regret it when I spend 12 hours on a flight soon.  If I am lucky the person next to me got one.  And when I did work in the office I just stayed home when someone else in the office was sick.  If they weren't going to stay home and not affect anyone I just took matters into my own hands.

You are not getting vacinated with one strain to prevent all strains.  You are getting vacinated with a combination of 3 strains to protect against those strains.  The vaccination may provide limited protection against other flue strains depending on how highly concerved the target is.  The 3 strains are chosen each year by the CDC as the strains most likly to show up in the coming flu season and yes they are wrong sometimes.

Sorry I don't believe in them.  My wife and three sons never get them either and no one has ever gotten the flu in my household (knock on wood for this year)

Unlike Santa and the Easter Bunny, Flu shots really do exist.

Ha-ha, I should have said I don't believe they really work.  I've seen plenty of people get flu shots and still get the flu and plenty of people don't get flu shots and never get the flu.  It's really just a crap shoot.

Also:

"Do flu shots have mercury in them? Yes, says the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, commonly referred to as the CDC, in their facts on the flu shot question and answer guide.

Opinions about whether mercury in flu shots is a threat to human health may vary, but no one can deny the facts on the flu shot. Mercury is used in the manufacturing of and as a preservative in most flu shot vaccines. Even those vaccines that are labeled preservative free have trace amounts of mercury left over from the manufacturing process, but because the content is too low to act as a preservative, they are called preservative free."
