Subject: Which part(s) of your body respond best visually?
I haven't been able to workout much in the last month due to a stubborn cold/infection or steady parade thereof.  This week I eased back in with a short easy swim and since everything was still okay I went in for one a day later that was longer/faster than I usually do, followed by about half of the nautilus circuit here.  (About 9 machines, 20 minutes.)

The next couple of days I was tired and sore, but this time in the 'good way'.  I have had a few observations about how my body responds to workouts, especially after an unplanned break.

My shoulders, upper back and upper arms seem to respond quickly to workouts.  Being out of the pool for a week didn't cause much in noticeable  losses, but after the longer workout I SWEAR my biceps were more pronounced and everything just feels harder from my belly button up.  I am down about 6-7 pounds from a couple weeks ago, and I have no idea where it went.

I know I lost weight from lack of appetite and dehydration, but my eating and drinking has been back to normal for over a week and my weight is still down.  I am NOT complaining, but I don't SEE anything different.  If it was all water, shouldn't it pop right back up?

Anyway I've noticed that I have upper arms that respond really quickly to exercise, swelling and firming up nicely.  I've also always had nice calves but they are getting more chiseled from biking. The parts in between, well, are all a lot more 'squishy'.

Last night I told my wife if my butt and gut responded like my biceps and calves she'd have women around her asking "who's your friend...".

So, what really stands out for you?  The training is good for everything and especially things we can't see, but what results do you get on the outside that you can show off or otherwise be most proud of?

Confession...

After a swim workout, I'll get dressed in the locker room to bra and pants. Then I'll go to the mirror to fix up/dry/comb my hair and put lotion on so that I don't get my top wet while my hair is still dripping...but the real reason is so I can look at what swimming does for my shoulders and upper back right after I get out of the water. I think my shoulders/back are my best feature.

x2 I like the pumped-up look after a work out.

By far my best feature is my calves.

Many times in races if I pass folks or they pass me on the bike, I get wow great calf or I want calves like yours type comments..and even at the Y if I'm in the regular room with treadmills and the like. I find it nice compliment coming from other fit triathletes. and in races makes me smile.  My daughters like me to flex to show off my calves...they find it amusing.

I do get some comments about my rear end from time to time...even from women which I find rather odd.

Shoulders, especially the front (I'm talking lifting workout here though) followed closely by chest. My quads look decent after a long bike

As an ex-climber, I've always had a good back and shoulders and I too love the way they look after swimming, have many a sneaky flex in the mirror.  Now my legs are really starting to look decent and I'm getting great comments from hubby and friends about how shapely they are.  It's a real motivation to keep up the training.

Long time bodybuilder and crossfit warrior so my arms are still big, back, chest calves still look good but at 205 lbs. 17% body fat, 36inch waist I'm still holding on to way too much muscle mass and need to lose at least 15 lbs.

Another vote for calves.  It may be due to my football, wrestling & weight-lifting background, but I've had people comment on them since I was in high school.  When I was on the tennis team in college I had someone tell me I had legs "like a Michigan fullback" - I guess that was a compliment (?).  Since I've been doing triathlon training, others have commented on them while riding, assuming that I developed them from cycling. If I had I should be a lot faster than I am...

Runner-up would probably be my shoulders & chest, again mostly from all the weight-lifting I did starting back in junior high.

Now I need to take a cold shower after reading AdventureBear's post...

No thanks, but why don't you sent it to Brett Favre, he seems to go for that kind of thing.

That's because it's the only view they get of you after you smoke past them on your bike.

When I read the post title, my first thought was 'my abdomen'.  Even last night, my husband was commenting on how my lower abs and hips were sexy again.  I still carry visible fat on my legs, but thanks to a very long torso, eating right for a week slims my stomach down nicely.

That said, I'm wearing a skirt and short boots today and I happened to notice for the first time in my life, how rock hard and defined my calves are.... I guess barefoot running agrees with me.  All those weeks upon weeks of tight/sore calves have paid off! Wink
