Okay the Mantra for Running is "Run a lot, mostly easy sometimes hard" okay this makes sense a lot of sense, keeps you injury free etc....
But when talking about swimming the mantra is "If you swim long slow distances that is how you will swim on race day. This also makes sense to me. You need the short sprints to build your speed etc...
But as I was doing my swim this morning to me they jsut seemed like a contradiction, one you take it easy to build and the other you push to build.
Can someone clear this up for me?

This ^^^^. I can go on an easy run and get something out of it. I have gone swimming easy and literally dosed off while swimming. With no impact or gravity for that matter, it takes more to stress your system, and your recovery is much faster.

I've been on a swim team for about 4 years and I've been in the triathlon world for 1 year. The best way to train distance for swimming is to just swim hard. Push yourself to your limits in every workout. It's the only way you'll train your body to go the distance and to get stronger.
