Hey there!  I'm going to start this program tomorrow and I wanted to know if I should log these workout in the "training log" section of this website.  I'm a beginner so I'm not sure if this would count as training or not.  Thanks!

Welcome! Yes, absolutely log your training! It will be so motivating for you to see how much you improve over time. I have been on BT for many years and I still log every workout I do, even though most of them are not triathlon related.

Hello. I am a 47 year old South African journalist and writer who's never been an athlete. I am reading "big fat triathlete" and have this crazy dream of getting fit and doing my first triathlon in September/October 2011. It's seems like an almost to big, audacious scary goal. But if I don't try I'll never know. I hope this group can get me closer to my goal.

Welcome to BT! I LOVE your determination! I will do what I can to help you reach your goal. It may seem scary now, and that's good because it will motivate you, but I know for sure that you CAN do this if you set your mind to it! One day at a time. Let us know how the training ins going on a regular basis and if you have any questions, please ask.

Yes, I think you can be ready for the Warrior Dash by April. It's not the simplest thing to train for but following a plan like this beginner exercise plan can get you in good shape and ready for the craziness of the race!

Hi! I'm just starting this program tonight - why bother putting it off until tomorrow? I enjoy working out and training but over the last few years haven't done too much. I also have an 18 month old child and work full time. All of this has put exercise on the back burner, but now I'm ready to get back at it. I hope this website will help to keep me motivated!

Welcome! There are a few plans that cannot be imported and this is one of them. You can bookmark the plan page for easy access. If you click on "My Training Plans" under "Planned Training" under your graph in your training log, you can import any of the plans that are available. This plan is so new that it can't yet be imported.

I hope with time it could, for now it is still possible to import it manually (e.g. cut and paste into planned training) so it is fine. Thank you!

Hi Tiff! Welcome to BT! I can tell you that I am one of those people that can look back on my 20s and say that I am in WAY better shape and look WAY better now (as a 36 year old) than I ever did in my 20s. It is such a great feeling!! Congrats on taking the first step to making that happen for yourself! Please let us know how the plan is working for you so you can inspire others to take on the challenge, too!

I checked out the beginner exercise program but I think I am a little past it. Although this is my first triathlon I am doing I was running like 20 miles a week before I started training. Tonight I did a 5.3 mile run followed by a 13.6 mile bike and a 1250 meter swim. I will have to look for something more advanced.

Props to everyone who is doing this plan. Training for a triathlon is a great way to lose weight. I lost 10 pounds so far and hope to lose another 7 over the next month before my triathlon.

Check out some of the Sprint training plans. I am sure you can find something there that meets your needs. You can also use a Sprint plan but add more running if you like. In general, though, if you are stronger in one sport you should RESIST the temptation to continue to focus more on that sport instead of the ones you are weaker in.You might want to find a plan that suits your fitness level in swim and bike and use the running for that plan as well even if it isn't challenging. Your run fitness can be maintained while you really focus on swim and bike.

Hello fellow fitness questors,

I'm off to the races..I'm swimming now 3 days a week..30 minute sessions about 1200M bumping up to 45 minutes next week and adding this exercise program starting Saturday. I'm 40lbs, well really more like 50lbs overweight and I'm turning 49 this year. I'm generally healthy and somewhat active, baseball, golf, badminton....running is just not in my vocabulary. My goal is to be smaller and fit to compete at the end of this summer in a sprint tri.

I'll be checking in weekly, I'm going to need help to stay motivated. I'm great at beginnings, it's just the follow through that's difficult. This isn't the first time I've tried to loose a few pounds or set a fitness goal. I just hope this time I will succeed!

Have a great week end.

Hey! Can you help?

I have raced as a cyclist and competed for a club as a sprinter and competed as a swimming - so I am taking on triathlon as a real challenge as I have never put together all 3! lol

I find the running hardest as I was a sprinter (this was all many years ago from teenager to me mid 20s).  I am now 47 and want to do my first triathlon this year.  My problem is for the running training, which it says you should have rest days in between etc. and the cycling and general exercise with free weights, then swimming they advise at least 3 times a week?  How do you fit it all in?????

Any pointers please Tongue out   Should I do certain things together? do I take specific days off?

Cheers Hafr
