Here's a friend I swim with, Rob Dumouchel, who did a 53 degree, 10k swim yesterday, as a fundraiser for the local foodbank. There was a lot of diagonal swell, so he only averaged about 2600yds per hour Without a wetsuit.

There's a ton of info and video from his swim at his blog here and here. He's not only a good swimmer, but a great guy. I call him the swim club's mother hen; he's always here and there keeping track of the less experienced swimmers.

I've only seen him in a wetsuit once in water that's about this cold year 'round.

Yeah, I follow him on FB and met him at the 12 mile swim in L.A.   Definitely badass

OK- I saw the photos,
but I'm still shaking my head.  That doesn't seem possible.
I would have gone into hypothermia within 10 min,
Even if the water were 67 degrees.

Me too! This had me wondering if I could do a 300 yd swim leg in Mission Bay without a wetsuit this month, but there's no way!
