OR....

I had an idea that I wanted to do my own plan, came here, looked at all the plans, compared to my experiences this past year, know that I need a slower progression on the run than on the bike and swim instead of even on all three, want to pull the run a bit while I speed up the bike portion, and decided that I couldn't find a plan that fit with my current needs.

See, it goes back to, something that is generalized for the general public is never going to be as effective as something that is tailored for the individual, and the best plan is the one you follow.  Doesn't matter what you do as long as you do something.

There are really only two basic tenets to training for a triathlon:

Progressiveness and injury prevention.  That's pretty much it.

This is true, however, a proven generic plan put together by an experienced coach is going to be better than something cobbled together by someone who lacks the experience to do so.  Further, the support forum provides access to coaches who can help guide you in the modification of a plan to suit your needs.

and the best plan is the one you follow.

This is definitely not true.

Doesn't matter what you do as long as you do something.

For someone who is untrained, any training will improve fitness.  However, it is also very easy to over extend yourself early in the plan, especially for someone who has some previous, but not recent, endurance experience.

Going out and running forty minutes when you haven't been running recently (at least that's what I got from your posts) or forcing yourself to slog through 1600yds at 4:00/100yds are not the types of workouts that you should be doing and you are very likely to put yourself on the shelf because what you are putting together is very likely too much, too soon.

Good luck,

Shane

I'll go ahead and finish out this week and then I think I found one I could deal with in the custom one.  I'm just going to ignore swim times for now.  I've imported starting 1/10/11 with a race day of 4/16/11, 14 weeks.  Is there a way to DELETE planned info before the 10th?  And right before importing it I printed it out so it's easy to see the big picture.  Is there also a way to get a printout from the training log?  Thanks!

Like Shane said, this is only true if the customization is done by a coach or someone who has enough experience with training principles to do it effectively and safely.

This is the biggest reason a beginner shouldn't take a plan and start changing it wholesale.

I've said this before, Deb.  My biggest concern reading your posts is that you're going to hurt yourself, and end up leaving the active lifestyle behind, losing all the great progress you've made.  PLEASE, start listening to more of the advice given by experts like Shane.

I received a Swimsense for Xmas and have been having problems with it as well. First, when I went to plug it in the first time to transfer a workout it erased all previous ones. Secondly, the next two times I went to use it when I got to the pool it was out of battery, although it had been plugged into the computer the whole time charging (or so I thought).

Lastly, is there a way to upload the Swimsense workouts directly into my BT training log like I do the ones from my Garmin? Is there a plug-in I need to install or something? When I try to import it, it shows the drive and the device, but when I click get data it just freezes at 0%.

Any help is appreciated. I'm considering trying to send it back since it really just doesn't seem to be working properly.

Thanks in advance.

Finis SwimSense.  My pool is 25 yards per length, 50 per lap, when I put in it's 25 yards, each time I do a length, it counts it as 50, consistently, so when I swam 1600 yards it said I swam 3200 and counts each 100 as 200.

When you swim, are you stopping at all mid length?  Are you doing this all freestyle or are you swimming another stroke?

My don't have a SwimSense but my Pool Mate will mark a lap if I stop mid length (such as due to cramp).  Otherwise the motion sensor does great getting all of the lengths that I swim.

Best of luck!
