Pre-race routine:

Gave a pint of B- at 4:00pm Friday, Left for race 8:30am Saturday. Met Julie at the Park and ride after seeing a couple roads off the road. Yes its Freezeroo time finally. Chipped up and sat in car a while.
Event warmup:

Took a little jog and hit the head.

Comments:

That was the worse stuff to run in or on. We started as a mob and stayed that way till the first turn. We had a couple hours of wet snow. About an inch or two heavy slush. Probably ran 5 miles trying to get 3.1. At a mile and half I was pretty tired and wondering why. Duh down a pint and running in snow. Pushed through. I swear that is the longest second mile stretch of any race.
Most the time we ran single file bidding for a 12 inch path of slushy pavement. Came in a couple minutes ahead of Julie and cheered her in.

What would you do differently?:

This is a training run with a race around it. Not much.
The blood bank was asking for B- so I gave.

Post race
Warm down:

Walked to get Y a banana and a bite.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hematocrit.

YAAAAAAAAAAY I get to be the first to tell you how awesome you are!!!

Congrats on showing up for and doing this race in tres slushy ickiness.

I don't think I've ever seen 'hematocrit' as a reason for not doing better, and you never fail to get a big har har har from me

Consider it a strength session!

Nice for getting out in the nasty conditions and getting it done.  Good for you for giving blood too!

I agree with Yanti!  Running in the slush is HTFU on it's own....doing it down a pint is amazing HTFU.

Good on you for pushing through a tough training race!

That Freezeyourazzoff marathon will be cake after these freezeroos!!

Nice race in less than ideal conditions. Maybe next time replace the pint you gave with a tasty pint. Perhaps something with a lot of body like a good porter or stout.
