Hey all,

I don't normally post much in here, but one of my friends in the exercise physiology department (MS student) is recruiting volunteers for research looking at the effects of estrogen concentration on the immune response to prolonged running. The results will help us to better understand how to keep women healthy and able to maintain their training regimens properly.

To participate, you need to be:

- healthy woman age 18-35

- normal menstrual cycle

- have completed a half marathon or farther race in last year

- currently training about 3 day / wk with 45 / min or more per session

If you participate, you will get body composition assessed and a VO2max test.  I know a fair number of you live around the triangle.  This would be ideal for you as you will need to make a few trips in to a lab on the UNC campus.

If you're interested, send me a pm and I'll give you the contact info for the person doing the research.

Edit:  age range is 18-30.  My mistake.  Thanks to everyone who's contacted Ashley.  This is truly helpful.

Women athletes are understudied historically for a couple of reasons:
1.  Well, they've only been "allowed" to play sports since the 70's or so.
2.  Menstruation affects so many processes related to exercise, and it really complicates research timing.  Most researchers would rather just skip all the extra work and study men.

Another guy is doing something with all guys...he may have enough subjects so far.  Let me touch base with him on the requirements and see if he still needs people.
