Pre-race routine:

got a nice sleep the two nights before. However, I have a weird localized pain in my hip. I think it is just tight. I too some time the evening before to stretch and "stick" my hips, hamstrings, calves.

I got a good breakfast and headed out to the race. Easy 40 minute drive...which I turned into 60 minutes by missing the exit. Doug turned into my GPS.
Event warmup:

Does talking with friends count?

Comments:

About 1.5 miles in, my HR was jacked. I tried to hold on, but I had to back off. CK ran with me for a bit, but he had more in the tank and I pushed him off to go catch Doug. I struggled from 4 to 8. I could not get in a groove and the hills justed seem to get steeper.

At mile 6, I was still at my planned pace of 9 min miles. I think I held it until mile 9, but I really paid for the effort the rest of the way.

As I was running to the line up the last hill, Doug and CK started yelling to me to move. I wanted to saying one thing, but opted to just give them a blank stare. LOL I finished with nothing in the tank. I have not felt that shattered since my last 70.3. Frankly, I need to think about why. I had higher expectations, but I am not disappointed.

Funny thing about this race...the distance felt shorter than last year, but I ran slower.
What would you do differently?:

Since this was a B/C race, it was all about having fun and taking inventory. I got a good read on my shape.
Post race
Warm down:

I ran to the car and changed!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I realized I have been running the flats too much and need to make sure I start mixing in some hard hills. Last year, I was doing TNR leading up to the race. It prepared me much better than flat base work. My cardio was terrible on the up hill efforts.

Event comments:

Love RTR...will do it again next year.
