NOTE: Marathon route change just posted!

The 2011 Umstead Marathon course has changed.  It now includes more singletrack, and less of an out/back at the start.  If you like singletrack, you'll like the change!

Thanks for the info Mr. Gump.  More trail = more fun.  I was hoping to catch up with one of your training runs, but my runs have been pushed to very early in the morning due to family commitments.  Had a great Run Saturday under the full moon ...

High 40s early, mid-high 60s later, partly cloudy, light winds...what an awful forecast.

Anything faster than 9:00/mile would be fantastic at this point. Tongue out

I hate I'm going to miss it! Have fun!

The baby hasn't come yet, but I would have missed Umstead for Zack's Pinewood Derby anyway.

Had a blast on the single track.  Too much fun apparently, as I had nothing left for what Turkey Creek had to offer.  It was a great day, the volunteers were fantastic (the only race where there are more volunteers than spectators!)  It's also the first race where my entire family was at the finish line, my parents AND my in-laws were on-course, and my best training partner was on the course WITH his 2 daughters cheering me on at mile 10 AND 19.5!  They waited THAT long for me to get back around.

Friend with his kids at 10, parents and in-laws at 12, parents, in-laws, wife and kids at 17.5, friend and kids again at 19.5, friend's coach at 22, wife and kids at finish.  THAT was awesome.

Finished 8 seconds quicker than I did in 2008, but was in much more pain this time than last

I was thinking the same thing when I saw your time. So by your definition above, you should just call this a fantastic race :-) Sounds like you had a blast. Sorry I couldn't come cheer you on- kid soccer obligations all morning.

Any race I can walk away from HAS to be called fantastic.  It was tough knowing where I was 11 months ago however, and where I was Saturday.  As The Terminator said..."I'll be baaack!"  Maybe not at Umstead, maybe so.  Who knows.  Saturday was the first time I've thought "maybe I'm getting too old for marathons".  Then I saw a guy well into his 70s with a race number strapped on.  Suck it up buttercup.
