Pre-race routine:

Up relatively early for the 60-90 minute drive to the Cape. Had a slice of sprouted wheat toast with almond butter before leaving. Stopped for a large Dunkin black coffee on the way.
Event warmup:

Passed the time after check in with ItsAllRelative_Maine, FlyTheBlueSky & Mrs, MAV, KevinG & Em, RedSoxChick. Dropped my back pack at the car about 30 minutes before the gun and then stood in line at the PortaPotties. Found a spot on the course just before the gun went off.

Comments:

My training has been less than stellar this winter. I just couldn't seem to find my ambition. Since I probably haven't run 6 miles since the end of summer or early fall I decided to go with a run 1 mile and then take a 1 minute walk break plan for the race. This seemed to work well. I also used my tunes to keep the bpms at 85-90 which keeps my foot turnover up and helps my pace. Found "Lose Yourself" to pick it up and finish strong. I was surprised that I was able to pass a few folks towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

Find a plan and follow it.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out in the venue until most of the BTers had finished. I tired to find a few folks as they finished but it was very cold and wet. Moved on with a great crowd of BT folk for food and Guinness at BBC.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The usuals -training time, faulty family gene pool, general wimpiness, gravity

Event comments:

Anytime I can get out for a winter run with friends and share food and beer it's a winning day in my book!

Overall: 397/606
Performance: Average
Course: Pretty Cape scenery and no traffic. Roads were mostly clear of snow and ice just quite a few puddles some of which disguised deeper potholes. About a block of slippery packed snow and slush on a side road just before the finish. The weather can best be described as the celestial equivalent of spittle.

Nice job! It was very nice for me to hook up with some other BTers...they are few and far between here in Maine. You had a great race for someone who has been taking it easy this winter!

Great Race Kathy!!!! It was less than ideal conditions to train in this winter and you pulled off a great race, Congrats!!!

I quite certain beer and cheer is the best part of the race!!!

Great race Kathy.  Running through that weather takes some intestinal fortitude.  I'm so glad you got to meet Jennifer as well.

Nice job Kathy!  Even in the spittle you had a very good time.  It's always a good time at the end of a race to get together with everyone and talk about the race, even better with a couple beers.
