Sunny
Total Time = 1h 06m 30s
Overall Rank = 29/82
Age Group = F 50-54
Age Group Rank = 2/8
Pre-race routine:

Got up extra early and had some scrambled egg beaters in addition to my usual oatmeal, and a cup of coffee. Checked out the temperature, it was 29!! I was really hoping it would warm up by 9 a.m. Met fellow BTers TTucker (Tammy) and annekangster (Anne) and chatted a bit.
Event warmup:

None, as usual. Probably could have done some easy jogging, but I didn't. Used the bathroom 3 times.
Run
  • 14m 14s
  • 1.24 miles
  • 11m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

In spite of the narrow pathway, they started us off in one huge wave. I started a bit slow, ran on grass to get around people and then just held it steady. Kept Tammy in my sights the whole way, she was just a bit ahead of me. Wore gloves and an ear band under my baseball cap, felt just right in the cold.
What would you do differently?:

Try and run a little faster, I'm pretty sure I had it in me to go faster. And do a short, easy warm up.
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Caught up to Tammy in transition and we left at the same time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, this was pretty good.
Bike
  • 35m 10s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.06 mile/hr
Comments:

Tammy and I left the same time out of transition. I worked on keeping a high cadence, especially on the hills. I passed a lot of people and no one passed me! Road was kind of bumpy, and there was traffic on the course, but that wasn't a problem.
What would you do differently?:

Work on bike fitness! Pretty good ride considering how little I've been riding!
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Felt a little wobbly coming off the bike, couldn't run it to the rack, had to walk it. Then I could NOT get my running shoes on in spite of the Yankz, grrr. Left calf cramped up, had to stretch it out. Finally made it out to Run 2.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting the shoes on! I lost a good 30 seconds here...
Run
  • 14m 56s
  • 1.24 miles
  • 12m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt kind of slow until the turn around and walked through the water station... looking back I should have skipped the water and ran it. Felt much better after that and picked up the pace and passed a couple of people, and Anne met me and "sprinted" with me through the finish. Felt like I left it all on the race course!
What would you do differently?:

Skip the water station, pick up the pace a little earlier. Keep working on bricks too, I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere with the run off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, oranges, banana, chocolate protein drink, catching up with other racers and waiting for the awards ceremony.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

T2 for sure! Didn't wear my Garmin, so had no idea on run pace. That may have helped me pick it up a little, enough to take 1st AG.

Event comments:

I really, really enjoyed this race. Lots of woman camaraderie! Enjoyed racing with other BTers!! I will definitely do this one again!!

Hmm, for some reason the run paces are different than what I put in.  Run 1 was 10:42 pace, Run 2 was 11:14 pace.  Hmmm.

So my BT friend Anne that did the Du also, said her Garmin recorded the run portion as 1.52 miles.... that would put my paces as 9:21 and 9:49 which is more in line with what I've done lately with the new shoes... so if that's true, THAT makes me happier!!

Egad, I must have had some post race problems trying to read the race results!  I ended up being 20th overall out of 82...

Sounds like you had a great race and WOWZA on the run pace if the Garmin calculations were right - you were SMOKIN! Maybe I need some speedy new shoes!
