I'll be doing their OWS, and probably a few long bikes after.

Without knowing about your training or overall strengths, I'd say just go out there and have fun. Stay in your comfort zone and if you feel like opening up a little, let it fly on the run. The entire event is 100% flat with the only resistance being the wind. You'll feel like you're flying on the first part of the bike and the return portion of the loop is notoriously a head/crosswind. Don't get discouraged if you're coming back a little slower than you went out.

Again, have fun out there!

Thanks for the info. Judging from last years results, it looks like I'm gonna be one of the slower ones out there. My goal is to not finish last!

I realize this is last year's thread, but oh well.  Works just as good and less confusing than having two threads with the same title.

Who is racing this year?  This will be my first time there, but it seems the two major things in play are the heat and how fast/flat the course is.  Looking forward to it!

I'm racing there for the first time as well...have family who live in the area, so looking forward to it.  Heard it's a pretty flat course.

The bike and run are very flat and fast.   I am sitting this one out due to injury.   I do plan on being there cheering everyone on though.

Good luck to all!

To anyone doing this: do you know if the lake is going to be open for swimming on Saturday at packet pick up?

I was wondering the same thing. I know the kids tri is Saturday morning so if they are going to open the lake for swim practice it would have to be sometime after that. I didn't see anything on the website.

OK...I heard from someone else that she thought the lake opened back up at 10. I'm not doing the race Sunday, but my kids are on Saturday and I wanted to get in a swim after they were done!

Yup, the RD sent out an email to all participants stating that the lake would indeed be open at 10am after the kiddos get done.  Since this is my first time at this race, I was considering doing the loop one time just to get a feel for the swim course, although that wouldn't likely be until after lunchtime.

How long will the lake be open for OWS?  I would think only a couple of hours, but could be wrong.

Wog - Thanks.  I have ??Peroneal Tendonitis in my left ankle.  I can still run but it takes a few miles before it becomes bearable.  It helps taping it and running in compression socks.  It is much better than a couple of weeks ago.

I think it was caused by trail running at Castlewood.  I may have tweeked my ankle then.

Rough race this weekend!  That sucker was getting pretty hot...big props to the residents for the sprinkler action though.  That helped immensely.

My performance was poor, but that's my own fault.  Need to find a way to get some more hydration on the bike (not sure how two full bottles wasn't enough for an hour's ride, but oh well).

Absolutely!  I ended up with a really strong run thanks to the folks with the hoses.  God bless 'em.
