Subject: Changes for the 2011 Tuesday Night Time Trials
[copy / paste from an Examiner article of mine]

The 2011 season of the Tuesday Night Time Trials will bring something that TTers of years past will remember: a reversed route starting and ending at the Church.

What's staying the same in 2011:

- Race cost: $20 day of, $15 pre-reg, $50 1/2 series pass, $90 full-series pass. No extra online registration fee.

What's changed for 2011:

- Website: The website and registration is now hosted under the Twin Cities Spoke IC3 club domain.

- Registration: Registration is through the club website. There is no extra online registration fee.

- Race categories: There's a new "stock" category for those who race on non-TT bikes.

- Start location: The start is being moved back to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Community (Co. Rd 24 & Brockston Ln in Wayzata). This is where it used to be, and where the turnaround was in 2010. Basically it's a reversed course from last year. This should make for better parking, spectating, general socializing, and safety.

- Course safety: They are adding race signs and course marshals at key intersections to provide additional visibility and safety to racers.

- Sponsors: They have some great sponsors lined up so far to provide support and prizes.

- Prizes: The prize list has been expanded, creating top-5 overall depth and both aero and stock categories.

- More prizes: Thanks to great support from some of their sponsors, IC3 has some great raffle prizes. Each paid race entry gets a raffle entry.

- Burger Night: They had luck with the end of the series cookout, so they are bringing it back more often. Look for three cookouts to offer you a chance to hang out, get to know other racers, eat free food, and just have a good time. Bring your family and friends.

Here's the new website: http://www.twincitiesspoke.com/tnt/

So what if you have a roadie with aero bars? Which category do you suppose that would fall into? Sounds like fun. I've never tried anything like this, but might have to give it a go!

Foggy

I THINK that's still aero. Some TTs have a LOT of divisions: "no aero components," "aero components but no aero helmet," "aero components WITH aero helmet," "non-aero wheels," etc, etc. I actually like that TNTT is a little simpler.

I think I've done 4 of these in the last 2 years, and I've been to 2 more (and didn't ride). They "hurt" like a 5K - "all out" for under a half hour. It's a great kick in the pants every once and a while. My brother-in-law thinks he's a good biker. And he IS a good biker - better than me for sure. But he still finishes near the top of the BOTTOM half of the pack. The good bikers are CRAZY good!

Should be fun to have more of a meeting place. The last few years, you'd park in the lot and then bike 1/3 of a mile to the start. With the new route, people might be able to "hang out" more. Looking forward to it!

it should be a good change.  also for those who have not done it:  there is a wide range of people that participate.  But yes the top half are crazy good.  i enjoy checking out all the gear that people have.

Good to know about. I always want to do this, but hate the idea of being last or nearly last   Maybe this year...

Yeah, there is a range of abilities, and everyone's welcome. I'm ALWAYS intimidated when I do it, but being it's a "time trial" start (as it IS called the "Tuesday Night Time Trials" after all...), you'll probably be starting mid-pack, and there's no way for anyone at the finish to really know if you just finished in 25:00 or 35:00.

Come check it out! My wife was afraid she'd be last place last year when she tried it for the first time. When the results came it, she was near the back but was THRILLED with her performance! We'll be back for a few this year, I'm sure. Especially because they're talking about bringing out the grills!!........

plus there is also a guy the rides a city hybrid commuter and "wears sweat pants".  I think he even has a shirt/jersey that is titled The sweatpants guy.  (or something like that).  I did it once last year.  started third and got passed by a lot of people.  It was very intimidating at first especially when i went out there and all these people were in the parking lot, on trainers warming up.  But it was fun.  ANd educational

This sounds like a perfect format for doing a lactate test. I hope to be able to make it to some of them this year.

I'm actually a member of the Twin Cities Spoke of IC3 - the folks that host TNT (thanks for the free press Steve!).  We're excited about continuing to organize this fun little race series.  We're hoping that returning the course to the original route, increasing the prize giveaways and expanding the barbecue nights will provide a more festive atmosphere.

For those of you who have raced before, you'll still see the same friendly folks in orange jerseys at registration and out marshalling the course.   Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or concerns that aren't addressed on our website and I'll be sure to get a quick answer for you.

I am trying to find the results from previous years and cannot.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  I know you can't "tell" if you're last, but I am still not psyched about the concept   But I really am just curious to look at them again.

Emily, I found a PDF on my computer from one of the last TNTTs last year. Here's a copy/paste from that PDF. It pasted unformatted, but you can see the MPH as the 3rd to last number in each row. And if you're wondering when you're looking at the time, it's an 11 mile course.

BikerGrrrl - 2011-03-13 1:56 PM Good to know about. I always want to do this, but hate the idea of being last or nearly last   Maybe this year...

Don't worry Emily, just let me when your going and I'll go the same night, I'll be fighting for last place and helping others feel better

It would be fun to do an early one and then see how you progress...

Just stumbled on this thread. I'm kind of new to the area, and curious what this course is like. It looks like your typical rolling Midwestern TT, but figure I'd ask the experts. I did a few of the Farm Dog TTs late last summer. This course comparable? Roads heavily traveled? Roads in good shape?

If you're free on Sunday, we're gathering  a group to ride out in that area.  You should join us!  I can show you the TT course, which we will actually ride on for a small portion.  Check out my other thread about the ride.

The TT course has long hills and the roads are VERY nice, with wide smooth shoulders.
