Seriously surprised to not find a thread for this race already started.  So,  here goes.  This is my fourth year participating and volunteering.  I am part of the Ryan's Quest team and doing the sprint relay with my husband and his co-worker.

Love this race and think Larry and Michele do an amazing job with the race weekend!

I'm in for the sprint, sort of an end of season treat to compete in my backyard. The heat at last year's Oly was too much for me, so I'm going to enjoy the shorter distance.

It's scary to think that there's an official thread for the 2011 race already!

Right now I prefer to think of the race as four months out.

I'm SOOOOO IN!

Last year this was my first TRI ever and I had a really bad swim.  This year, I've got a score to settle with that lake!

Best,

Jeff

The heat was ridiculous last year, hopefully this year will be more tolerable.  I've never seen so many people walking and on their backs during the run portion.  It was impossible to run continuously, for me anyway.... looking to improve on last year's disappointing results.

I agree that's it's very well run and a great experience, looking forward to this year!

Hi all... I'm new to tri-sport and was hoping to do 2-3 sprints this year.  Is the NJ State Tri good for a beginner?

I am partial the NJ State since it was my first and Michele and Larry run an amazing race.  It is a large race with lots of participants but it just adds to the atmosphere.   I find that I am always comparing how well organized their race is to how poorly organized other smaller races are that I have since done.  If I had only one to choose each year,  it would definitely be the NJ State!  Hope to see you there.  I will be with the Team Ryan's Quest group.

Well... I guess if you're going to get into the sport, you might as well get in at the "best".  I'm in.  Hopefully NJ State will be the beginning of many for me!

SO Many were walking!  I've never walked any portion of any race ever, but it wasn't even a choice last year.  My mind said YES but my body said F-U! Walked/ran the last 5K.  I'm not racing this year but hoping it is cooler for everyone's sake.

This was my first race ever (last year). Even with the huge crowds it's a very beginner-friendly event. It's a very well run race and it's great to ride through West Windsor and have people cheer you on from their yards. I'm not racing it this year, but I want to come watch. I'm definitely thinking of doing it again in the future.

Also: YAY! for Quakerbridge Rd. being repaved. :D

Returning to the sport after 7 years...marriage and 2 children. Completed the Smith Mountain Lake Sprint...even with all comments about the heat last year, I am really looking forward to this race as it will be kicking off our summer vacation. Working up the the Williamsburg Va Half Ironman in September.

Good luck everyone!!!

Welcome! The heat (at least for Sprint participants) has only been an issue for one year - 2010. Every other year since 2006 has been really nice. Now if you are in one of the earlier waves you should be finishing the sprint right around 8:30 or 9AM - before any heat. I race in the Clydesdale division and we usually are in wave #13 or #14 (somewhere around there). We didn't go off until around 9AM last year and finished right towards the beginning of the late morning early afternoon (10:30) sun. Other than that you should be fine. Make sure to soak up the atmosphere at Mercer County Park those two days because it is a first class operation and you'll have a ton of fun doing the race.

Good luck!

It has been warm enough that I think 2 or 3 of the last 4 years we haven't been allowed to wear a wetsuit. I think it was 80 or 82 last year (2010). The year before (2009) the temp was just one degree below the allowable temp for wetsuits ( isn't it 76 or 77? - i can't remember - they gave us the option of wearing one - but you forfeit any prize if you place).

Personally - IMO - make sure to do a couple of open water swim WITHOUT a wetsuit.

Usually bad for this race.  You will be sitting around along time and it just gets hotter and hotter.
