Elite 3140 | Subject: RE: Muscle Milk Pancakes IMOP...I would just drink the muscle milk and use regular milk for the pancakes. The reason being is that many proteins especially whey protein is denatured/destroyed under high heat 161 deg F...so the cooking process may (not sure exactly what temperature frying gets to) render some of the protein content useless and considering the cost of muscle milk I do not think its worth it......so I would drink it and be certain to get all the value from it
so i am sure they may taste good and to each their own but I think muscle milk company just wants you to find more uses for their product (like many companies) so you buy more even if it is not utilized in the most efficient way Edited by FELTGood 2011-03-28 9:08 AM |

Champion 5312 Calgary | Subject: RE: Muscle Milk Pancakes I think pancakes are a pretty healthy food, made with whole wheat flour and quick oats. You can replace apple sauce for oil in every recipe I have tried. Nothing bad in those things. And, actually, I have found putting yogurt on them is quite tasty, no "need" for syrup at all. |

Elite 3090 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Muscle Milk Pancakes I don't know why any endurance athlete would take Muscle Milk. Way high in fat. When I was shopping for a protein supplement for IM training, told the SA at the store what I was doing and he steered me away from MM and towards a whey product. 1.5 grams of fat vs 18. He said MM was great for guys wanting to bulk up for football who didn't care about fat. ETA. And before anyone says "Well Ryan does it" ask yourself if you think you're putting in the kind of training he is, and if you're already at your "Ideal Race Weight". Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whatever type of fruits you want. Sometimes i add a few chococolate chips, or raisins. Served with smuckers sugar free syrup. That is enough for 2 to 3 people and delicious. |

Elite 3140 | Subject: RE: Muscle Milk Pancakes synthetic - 2011-03-28 12:48 PM denatured protein breaks down to amino acids. your stomach breaks down protein to amino acids in the stomach anyways. Amino acids cannot be broken down any further. What is worse is heating of fats/oils above the room state, the 'trans'-forms them into a harder fat or destroys the nutrients within them, Denaturing destroys the hydrogen bonds and breaks the protein down from a "three dimensional" structure (quadrinary, tertiary etc)....denaturing does not effect the peptide bonds which are destroyed by peptase in the digestive tract. Therefore, by cooking proteins in a pan you are not going to have a "pan of amino acids"......cooking will render SOME of the proteins inactive and destroy the enzyme fuction of the protein. So I was not saying that the nutritional value is completely lost, it isnt, but my point is that is that if some of the protein activity is going to be destroyed why throw6-8 dollars worth of muscle milk into a hot pan....drink it and use the milk instead enjoy your pancakes

It provides a good mix of carbs, high in protein while keeping the fat content to a minimun. I don't even like drinking muscle milk by itself. |

Veteran 198 Chicago, IL | Subject: RE: Muscle Milk Pancakes I was mainly struck by the idea of getting more protein into my pancakes... as I love pancakes with maple syrup! To be completely honest, it never even occurred to me that Ryan might have a financial relationship with Muscle Milk but looking now I see that he is featured on their website. I want to be clear that I do not have any interest in Muscle Milk or the parent company. I also don't really care for the taste of the product by itself. I think I will try out the pancakes but I will also try a recipe similar to the one posted on this thread. Thanks for the comments and I will be more careful next time about falling for product promotion. |

It started a good discussion, and even led to someone posting another recipe that was probably more healthy. |

I second what zed said, no need to apologize, thats how good discussions start and i'm sure someone will try it with the muscle milk and will like it....Keep shooting away without hesitation... |
