Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 11m 35s
Overall Rank = 133/565
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 1/12
Pre-race routine:

One glass of INFINIT Nutrition (2 scoops) and a banana
Event warmup:

Pool Swim
Swim
  • 05m
  • 250 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Other than the one flip turn, I wouldn't have changed anything I did. I did dolphin kick too and was strong the entire time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

The cold weather effected my feet from getting into my shoes somewhat. I still need to work on getting my Transition times down, esp on T2
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 37m 37s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt strong ALL the way through this bike course. I like having the aero water bottle on the bike, it helps. I also learned how to use the thing correctly from another club member, David. I place the sponge in the large opening and the straw into the hole. Don't know why I didn't think of this before, but now it doesn't splash all over the place.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, very happy with my time on this and I hit all the hills as hard as I could.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Frozen feet made it difficult for me to get my feet into my running shoes. Plus, the trash bag I used to cover my stuff covered my racing belt and I forgot to put it on. Which turns out to be a 2-minute penalty.
What would you do differently?:

I still would not have worn socks with such a short race, but I will make a better effort to place my racing belt AROUND my shoes so I don't do such a thing again.
Run
  • 25m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

A little wobbly at T2 with frozen feet, but after a couple minutes they warmed up and it seems after the 2nd loop I had felt a surge and just stayed with it to the end.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was my best run time in an event I've had since I started doing triathlons. It's also what placed me the 1st in my AG.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank plenty of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have to say I enjoyed this race, despite the weather. Physically I was there 100%.

Event comments:

Setup Events always does a great job. Most people know this time of the year the weather is crazy.

I'm including my "real" time in this, not the 1:13:35 w/ my penalty for not wearing my race belt! Dumb

Note to self, do not attempt flip turns in a pool event again. Ended up with vertigo and I know I floundered for awhile. I was lucky I got in the correct lane. Strong all the way, disappointed with my time though.
Suit: No
Course: Dual course, son started at the exact same time. Here's the strange part: When I got to my bike rack, Robert's bike was still there. But his swim time was :30's faster than mine. And Robert noticed the same thing. Strange.

Nice win!  It was cold out there.  Regarding your son's swim time, my end of the pool (dive end) started several minutes after the shallow end started.  That might be it.

Thanks!  My son's a much better swimmer than I am and he was VERY disappointed my bike was gone when he got to T1.  We're planning another one in April, hopefully it will be warmer for him.
