Subject: First solo bike ride

I have a 2:30 hour ride tomorrow.  It's the longest I've done in years and my very first ride alone. I'm nervous but excited.    Anything I should think about before riding alone?  I'll have a phone, drink, gu, and a tool.  Am I missing anything?

Carry ID. A Road ID bracelet is a good thing to invest in.

Definitely make sure you have everything you need to fix a flat.  This is by far the most likely problem you will encounter.

It's also a good idea to let someone know where you're riding and when you expect to be back.

Some cash and a credit card!!!  Never let yourself get stranded without means to buy a gatorade, food, etc.

The others have mentioned the basic stuff to fix a flat. Do a check of your bike firstly to verify its mechanical integrity.

Wear good shorts with chamois cream since this is your first long ride in a while. Sunscreen or appropriate clothing, etc. Let someone know when you are leaving, where you are going and when you will check in with them when you get back.

Finally, while you are accomplishing the goal entirely on your own, you aren't entirely "alone", at least, not in the virtual sense. We all send along our encouragement and support.

Have a fine ride Ma'am, be safe, and make it a ride you will remember as one of your best. Smile

I remember my first solo "long" ride. I could hardly sleep the night before. Nervous, but excited Laughing.

I would also suggest driving the route looking from a biking perscpective or riding one where you are familiar with everything. Biking a road is very different than driving it.

Yes, be familiar with your route. Many years ago I had a 50 mile ride turn into a 100 mile ride because I missed a turn. That was before cellphones.
