Was just wondering that!

How is everyone doing?

Those that jsut raced recovered?

Everyone on vacation?

On my end of things training has been slow while my foot is healing but should be back to running soon thank god, it's been rough missing the whole summer of training:-(

On a better note i'm in the process of building up a road bike! Should make the colder months of riding a lot more fun and will finally let me try my hand at some road races this fall/spring.

Did our group die or what?

I figured that I had posted too much and scared everyone off.

Still out here training away.

Racing this weekend. Hoping to be stronger, faster, better. Will post some sort of race report afterwards.

I don't think you scared people away ... you kept it interesting for me.

I've still got problems with patellar tendonitis so I've not been racing at all.  Although I've been cycling, running & skating.  I haven't been swimming in weeks.  So busy working and finding the time to go to the lap swims has been all but impossible.  September is around the corner and hopefully things will ease up a bit so I can get back to swimming.

It sounds like those that are still active in the group are doing well. I have slacked off a bit on training this month between food poisoning, sinus infection, and family in from out of town. Either way I am happy with what I have accomplished in my first tri season, and I delighted that I'm only halfway through.

If you have been training at all after that it sounds like you are on the right track.

food poisoning was one of if not the most painful things i've ever gone through!

I had a really nice race at the Steelhead 69.1 race (swim was cancelled due to 4-8 foot waves and rip current warnings). I managed to run a 1:29:40 off of a 56 mile bike so I am very happy with that. It actually felt pretty comfortable. In retrospect I had a little more in me but I am always a little worried about blowing up. I tried to empty the tank over the last 1.5 miles. I am still not anywhere as near a fast on the bike as I am on the run. I guess my results show me where to focus.

I wouldn't normally do this, but I can use some help....

On August 28, I will be competing in the Santa Barbara Triathlon. Each year they raise money for a local non-profit, and I need your help. My goal is $750. 5 days, and $470 to go. Will you be next?
Please take a minute, and make a donation, no matter how large or small, every dollar makes a difference.
Thanks!

Thats awesome! I'm not sure how much not swimming before changed that, but that's faster than i've ever run a half marathon off the bike!

My fall Sept 25th A race HIM was canx...or rather made into a sprint distance but I'm going to do it.  I'm mildly disappointed and a slight bit relieved: increased work load that requires working  6 days a week, 12 hr shifts makes it difficult to train to the proper level.  I'm away from home 5:30am to 7pm for work.  Training is difficult for me to manage.

I bought a bike trainer... a KK road machine....UPS says it will be here Monday!Laughing  I'm hoping that I can ride in the safety of my living room in the middle of the night and keep making gains through the winter and come out of the gate strong next spring.  I've heard of ppl having sucess using trainers as the bulk of their bike riding...I'm hoping that will be true for me as well.

Anyway....has anyone ran the Cooper Bridge 10K?   It's on my list "things to do"....

Have an awesome Friday and happy training!!!

Yeah, I don't know about the swim either but it was a banner day for running for me. I feel like everything is coming together nicely and on schedule. When I first committed to do this IM I had no idea how I would get there but now I can see the end goal on the horizon.

This whole experience has reminded me much can be achieved by setting a goal and really pursuing it. It has been an eye-opening/life changing experience and I haven't even raced yet.

Once again, I hope everyone is still having fun.

The trainer can be a love hate relationship (sort of like treadmills). They can suck at times but do allow you to train anytime.
They are most effective for shorter high intensity workouts vs just logging time. You can just ride, but it'll bore you out of your skull and make you hate it. Great though for geting on, getting in your warm up, hitting the hard intervals, and off, and very time effective. You can make some huge gains doing that. Check out leegoocraps training log, he is one of my athletes and does all but his weekend longer ride on the trainer, and has raised his threshold pace a LOT doing this in the past 9 months or so,

So far so good!!!  It's all love right now but I hate treadmills and wont use them so I hope I don't feel that way later.......

I joined a run training group...I dropped in on the fly at the start of week 4 and missed all of the interval stuff but it is a basic run couch to 5k so i'm okay picking up where I am, I really wanted to check out the coach Levi Dodd who believes in the minimalist stuff and forefoot running....I'm not a bornagain believer  in the 5-fingers.....but it is interesting to see (hear) a different perspective.  And it made  me smile to see 25 ppl out there trying to accomplish a goal...complete their 1st 5K. Laughing

AND...AND....my good buddy wants to do a tri next spring...warms my heart.

Well you never know when a chainsaw is going to come in handy...either for clearing logs on the stationary ride  or providing motivation  if I start slacking on my pedaling... ha ha

Yes, I received the donation, thank you sooo much.

Trainers are awesome, but make sure you have the right workout for it or you will quickly feel like a hampster on a wheel.

My coach does some pretty awesome trainer workouts. Check them out:

Jaclynembry...thank you for the link...I like those and will do one in the morning....

To be honest I was excited that I bought the bikeovision dvd of the CA coast....but when I played it...not so much...now the scenery is awesome but the music is that of an elevtor, and ended up turning the volumn off and jammin on my ipod.  I don't think I'm going to be a TV watcher trainer girl....I like those intense workouts on your coach's webpage, I'm much more of a grab it and growl kind of girl...thanks for the share.

I do have a question for anyone....I didn't spring for the bike computer thinking that my cateye would suffice....could I move it to the rear  or would it be best to just spring for the $180 computer recommended on KK's site???  I'm really not trying to cheap out...I just didn't want two gadgets that do the same thing basically....

I do about 80% of my rides on a trainer. It is a whole bunch of suffering in my opinion but my wife is really unhappy with me being out on the road so the trainer is getting the lions share of the work. The 5 + hour rides suck but it they harden me mentally as well as physically. For what it is worth; after you spend 5 hours on a trainer, 5 hours outside virtually flies by.

As far as boredom goes; my coach is writing me power-based workouts that I do on the trainer. It gives me something to concentrate on. Last winter I got about 1/2 way through jorge's winter workout plan and I plan to do the whole thing this year. I would highly recommend this. Many people have made great gains using this free plan. I also have some spinervals dvds that can help make an hour go quicker. There are a couple other dvd/computer based workouts available for not too much $. Lastly, movies and TV shows are your friend. I am so happy that football starts on Saturday. I have a 5 1/4 hour ride that I will require some kind of distraction to tolerate.

I don't have an answer for your computer question. Sorry.

Jason

how quick can I expect my rear tire to wear out?  I see a stripe already after 5 rides.

That seems quick, I have never been able to notice wear on the tire because of the trainer. You may want to consider a extra back wheel with trainer tire. They are supposed to ride quieter and wear better.

totally depends on the tire and trainer.

I've had some tires start getting flatish after a few rides, others last all winter (and zero correlation between trainer and non trainer tires, one of my thin race tires actually lasted the longest on there).
Some trainers though will eat tires like its their job, while others do very little damage.
