Doin my first tri and my tri top and bottom are Sugoi 2xl's. I'm 5'10" 189. Too big? They feel comfortable but I'm thinking my awkwardness has lead me to a larger size. I had the xl's and returned them. It's my first tri so I'm not sure how they 'should' fit.

They are suppose to make you feel...oh wow..this seems tight...or...oh wow..hopefully people dont see things they shouldn't be seeing through this black material.

Think sausage casing. There's no real room for modesty in triathlon

You want to ensure that the fabric will stay in place throughout the event, especially when wet.  I wear a medium top and bottom.  Although a large tri short will fit me fine and be comfortable on a stand alone ride, they don't fit well after a swim and then a bike because on the run they will tend to sag a little.  I don't wear the large during races...just training rides because of this.  I say they should be snug but not uncomfortable.

5' 11" 188 lbs here...large bottom xl sugoi top.  And the top is still tight enough to make me self conscious to keep my diet up.

6'1" 199# and I wear a large on the bottom.  I had an xl top but it was too short for me (i have a long torso and that shirt felt like a tube top).  XL shorts just seem too baggy for me.  Don't want the drag

This...  I am 5'7", 158lbs.  Im not "thin" (for a triathlete)... but I have a TYR tri top and shorts in a size small.  Its not flattering, but its tight enough to work as a tri top and not so constricting that it would be uncomfortable...

The one-piece Zoot I am wearing in my avatar pic is a little less unflattering and is also a "small" but its still not something I would want to be seen wandering around town in Laughing

For the OP, I say as long as it is not flapping in the wind on the bike, or creating a ton of drag in the water you should be good.

Question on the same topic. Does anyone make a "long" tri top? I have a Zoot that is a large (REI garage sale $20). I went to look at some at REI because the L zoot is a little short. The XL & XXL were short as well. But my L seems to fit fine in shoulder and everywhere but is about 2" to short. The bigger sizes we're all about the same.

In order for technical fabrics to work they have to fit tight- no wrinkles. Also, the aerodynamic benefits of snug fitting are substantial. One lad with a Ph.D in aerodynamic engineering told me that, given an estimate of the total surface area of the forward facing wrinkles in an ill-fitting race uniform, you were towing a 5 inch diameter parachute behind you.

The stuff has gotta be tight...

x2. I did a tri with a comfortably-fitting tri suit (top and bottom separates) with no wetsuit and I ended up flashing everyone on shore for half of the swim. Granted this may not happen to you if you are either male or will be always using a wetsuit, but regardless, the sagginess after the swim will still be in effect if your suit is not tight enough.

Try it out after getting the suit wet, whether jumping in the pool with your race gear on or just hosing yourself down, and then doing a quick bike and run brick. You'll figure out if it fits right or not after that!

Brand is pretty important, for instance I've found that DeSota runs a bit small, you might find a certain brand that just fits you well.

Well I'm 6'2" and 168#s or so and I somehow fit into a medium tri suit and medium shorts and top, even if the top is a little short.
