They made that change last year before the Jackson County Tri.

I assume they change is permanent gravel.  I wasn't impressed.  It washes out, it had mud hole spots and you get a lot of gravel in your shoes.  I was fine with the way it was.  Not sure why they (Longview Lake) made they change as they need to keep going back after some areas get washed out and maintain it more.

But at least the KC tri has half the run loop on the roads (unless that changed) so less time running on the gravel.

Signed up this morning.  Went to help at the site but they have more staff this year and didn't need any. Frown

Road a loop of the bike course.  Should definitely go better than last year on my new bike!

Anyone that wants to find me, it should be easy.  Look for the guy with bright pink fingernails.

The trail was indeed muddy and washed out in spots. It was still very passable just a bit messy. The first (and fourth for the OLY) mile was on pavement.

It was a great event. Very well-run overall. I imagine if the trail is dry it's pretty nice, except for getting little pieces of gravel in your shoes.

The bike course is pretty bumpy on certain parts with all the tar-filled cracks. Of course any roads around a lake are bound to be a bit rough anyway.

The wind was steady but not horrible. Probably 15 MPH with some gusts. The roads were a bit wet from overnight rain. It wasn't a problem but you had to be cautious around corners and paint on the road.

I meant to look for the fingernails but got sidetracked. I kind of liked the trail but i prefer country roads, etc. to asphalt all the time. I did get some little rocks in my shoe but I also lowered my 5k time by a minute so I was pumped. The swim sucked for me but it was still 2 minutes quicker than I hoped and 5 minutes faster than I expected. The bike was just ok for me, I was around 8 minutes slower than I was hoping but, I'll take it. My goal time was 1:30 and I managed 1:24 so I was happy overall.I did realize very quickly that I need OWS practice and coaching lol. On a side note, my wife said that someone from the wave behind me left in the bus, I hope everything was ok there. For my first one I thought it was organized, good course, good goodies and fun. Now, on to the next one.!!!P. S. Those aero wheels sound friggin cool.

I was watching the bikes when the Ambulance and the Fire Truck showed up. I heard rumors, but does anyone know what happened?

I enjoyed by first triathlon and finish in 1:22:24.  Yeah!!Laughing   Just like Corey my swim sucked so gives me something to work on. I had a solid bike and average run but found little things I could improve on.

I was in the same swim wave (M>46) and right behind the swimmer that encountered problems in the water (last leg of swim).   When I was coming up on him he was face down in the water and another swimmer was able to assist him to a nearby kayak and flip him over.   The kayak blew their emergency whistle and motor boats were heading his way.   I hope everything turns out ok for him but it is not something you like to see at any endurance events.

Sounds like overall the race went well.

If anyone is interested, I write for examiner and I'm collecting reviews on the race to develop an overall rating for the race.  I'm also comparing the past participation levels to see if it's trending down or up and what the overall satisfaction level is.

Check my blog for the link to the survey if you are interested.

ps - I didn't see anything in the news for the guy that had problems.  Did he make it out ok?

This was my first Tri and I did the sprint in 1:18.33 so I was pleased! I was way slow on the swim and it was my first OWS however I just need more practice. Tore the bike leg up and did ok on the run though I was almost 2 minutes slower than my 5k pr.

I heard that the guy pulled from the water had a heart attack but was resuscitated, not sure about how accurate that info is though.
