Bob,

Missed your post a while back, yeah a little busy, but I have my breaks in there. Just raced Riverwood last weekend, and had a blast. I'll be there hopefully before and definitely after. Not to confuse me with Paula, but I'll be the short guy in a red/white/black DeSoto top and a hi-and-tight hair cut! Shouldn't be too hard to find!

Hi Andrew, I see that you are starting early (8:02) and I'm starting at 8:24.  So maybe you can yell some encouragement to me as you pass me on the bike on your second lap and my first.  Although it's possible that you may already be on your second lap before I start.  See you (And everyone else) Sunday.     Bob (Old bald guy with very short grey beard and TriWilmington tri suit or borrowed sleeveless 2XU wetsuit)

Good luck everybody. Make sure to come back and post your race report as I'll be competing in the Sprint II. Just saw this rule (?????you may hang onto the sides of one of the kayaks, canoes, and surfboards) and now I am not as nevous. :-)

Does anyone have a contact in WB that swims in banks channel. I would like to sneak in a few OW swims before next week.

If you grab a kayak just remember to go to the front or back, not the side.  You could tip it over.

As for swimming in Banks Channel go to the Triwilmington facebook page.  People often post there for swims in the channel.

But not any of the motorized craft.  If you grab onto anything motorized you will be pulled out of the water.

OK we've been numbered!  I think we are:

tjdave (Dave)  139

Roadtoad22 (Paula)  152

Maesmama (Kara)  194 (The only Kara I could find)

brazee (Andrew)  323

mjacaruso (Martin) 343

blynott (Bob) 354

The bad news is that I have a knot in my left calf that tightens up when I try and ride.  I guess I'll just rest and stretch until Sunday and see how it goes.  I have no idea where it came from, I've never had this problem before.  It may have been from trying to strip off my wetsuit, that's the first time I noticed it and that was Tuesday morning.  Don't you hate it when that happens?!!

I have its companion in my right calf.  Go figure.  When I back off from exercise a lot I tend to cramp up a lot.  Related?  Maybe.

I guess that makes me one of the "young ones" chasing you down!

Hit Jordan Lake last Friday and the water was pretty gnarly from all the wind. I did discover that I swim straight even in choppy water. Went down again yesterday and the water was much calmer. It was cold after all the rain came through, and since I'm not using a wetsuit, I had to spend a few minutes getting used to it.  I'm hoping it's true what they say about how flat White Lake is in the mornings,  but I know it'll be just as choppy with all the extra bodies thrashing around.

By the way, are we gathering at the volleyball courts before or after the race, and about what time?

Bob, stretch your calf out and make sure you are well hydrated!  A lot of cramping comes from dehydration, sometimes we dont think to drink when we swim.  Hope it gets better soon!

See everyone on sunday- starting to get nervous now!

Bob, you got me!!

I am 194!! 1 of 15 Athenas and starting at 8:32 am. It is weird to not have a start time that includes seconds. My race bag is packed, the van will be loaded tomorrow as I am leaving early saturday to kayak the swim for the half. Hubby and I are camping with the little one saturday. (air mattress is my friend.)

I have a sleeveless wetsuit. So the temperature dropping to 68 degrees is a little disconcerting, but not much I can do about it.

As far as the meetup, I would say probably right after the meeting which is at 7:30.

If not then, post-race with all the families. That would be cool.

Hi Kara, if you mean the 7:30PM meeting on Saturday, I won't be there.  I don't think there is any meeting Sunday morning but I'll look for you around 7:30 if I can.   It does look like the water is going to be cold, brrr!      Bob

Brrr, only 68 huh? Well that is why they have wetsuits! Looking forward to it, and please, don't swim over me if you are starting in the waves behind me! I'm a small guy! LOL! But all kidding aside, I hope to get to White Lake in time for some leisurely activities, but I think it might be hit and miss for me before the start, but I will try to stop in and will definitely cheer you guys on in later waves and meet up after the race.

So what is everyone's predictions on their times? I am hoping for a sub 1:20 finish, but will be happy with a sub 1:25 (not sure on how the swim will be with me!)

Good luck to all!

Before I pulled my calf muscle I was aiming for 1:45 (That's 1 hour and 45 minutes, not the time of day!).  But now I just want to finish.  My swim should be about 20 minutes, my bike around 50 minutes and my run about 30 minutes when healthy.  Yesterday I couldn't bike for ten minutes without getting cramps, so we'll just have to wait and see.  I decided to take off my speedplay pedals and just go with platforms to avoid trying to pull up on the stroke and that should help.  Of course that will slow me down on the bike, but I should be able to ride that way.  And the run is always a mystery to me anyway.   Bob

After over a week of a great weather forecast for today and tomorrow everything has changed.  The swim part of today's HIM has been cancelled due to fog and tomorrow's weather report now calls for light rain in the morning.  I am not happy.  This was to be my first OWS and I went out to White Lake yesterday and the lake looked great for swimming.  Oh well, I guess I'll decide when I get there tomorrow!  Bob

Yeah I saw that the Half was cut to a bike run, and yes, saw the rain forecast, so go figure. Keep eating bananas and stretching. I have my wetsuit all ready and everything, but you know what they say in the Army, "If it ain't raining, ya ain't training!" It will be fun either way!

I know a couple of guys who were scheduled to race in the half today. I followed them on the live timing, and I really hate they didn't get to swim, especially since I know how hard they've trained. The weather report is only a 40% chance of rain for tomorrow, which means there's a 60% chance it will be be beautiful and sunny. I'd say the odds are in our favor. Hopefully the fog on the lake will cooperate for us. See ya'll at the race!

5 AM and heading out the door.  Didn't sleep well but that's no surprise.  The radar looks iffy for the weather, but may work out OK.  See you all soon, good luck to all.    Bob

Had a good race, beat my goal by over 3 minutes.  Nice to meet Martin and Paula, sorry I missed Andrew (Again), Kara and Dave.  Maybe next race?   Bob

Alan, thanks for hanging around.  Talking to you relaxed me before the swim and seeing you on the bike gave me a lift!

Yeah i left about 1030 or so, wife wasn't feeling too good so had to roll. My swim left a lot to be desired, but I rocked the bike and run! Missed my overall goal by 1:40, so oh well. Just gotta work on that swim is all. Sorry I missed you all, I did see the tri-Wilmington tent, but didn't see ya Bob, glad you had a good race!

Maybe next time!
