Subject: bruising in legs after cycling...
ok, this has been happening to me for a few weeks now and was wondering how common it is....

It seems that whenever I finish spinning class I get these bruises on my upper thighs...on my right thigh they look like small pink/purplesish dots and on the left thight they are mostly pink superficial dots that sort of mesh together with a purplish undertone, almost like an old bruise. The last one is the size of my fist and it actually hurts when I press on it. These bruises form during particularly heavy/long cycling.

How common is this? Is it?

Thanks

I have never heard of this but I have had some really odd things happen to me (Ask me about the foaming thigh thing sometime. It happens when I am running and it is really hot. I look like a lathering horse). The first thing that springs to mind is are you getting enough C?

Not on the thighs but on my calves. The pedals kept hitting me.

yea my calves look like bruises with some regular skin on them. It's getting better tho since I am wiping out less and less getting in and out of the clipless pedals. I am the most graceless woman on earth.

It sounds like you are bumping into the saddle when you transition from standing to sitting, combine that with the atrocious, too-soft, saddles commonly found on spin bikes, and you have a recipie for a bruise.

Practice smooth transitions into and out of the saddle

well, the bruises occur on the front of the thight, closer to my torso and I know that I am not hitting anything accidentally.

Do the pink spots look like mini bloodblisters from the rubbing. If its high on your inner thigh toward your pelvis its probably from rubbing. What shorts are you wearing? Even my tri shorts I wear to cycle in sometimes cause friction. Someone very intelligent decided to put the seams on the inside of the leg where they would rub the seat.

Well, my shorts are pearl isumi something or other....they are tight and I have not noticed any rubbing, however I would not put that out of the question to explain the dots on the right thight Still, the bruise on my left upper thigh is painful, and the red marks don't seem so superficial as to have been caused by rubbing and has a black and bluish mark deeper still.

I am having the same thing happen! The bruises appear within hours after a class. It's not my outfit rubbing or that Im bumping into anything as I ride, Turns out Im having an issue with low iron levels.

I would get it checked out. Are they little red dots that look like moles? It they are that would be petechia. They can be fairly common in a minimum amount but a lot of them is not normal. Especially since you have been bruising. It seems like a clotting problem which can range from very minor to serious.

Oh wow! I just realized that this was first posted in 2005. Is that correct? I have a feeling this is no longer relevant.
