Looks like a very small chance of scattered thunderstorms. Fingers crossed and checking every day......don't want another Mini-Mighty Man like we had in April.

Ok.. one little question about this race...My boyfriend and I did this race in 2009. Both of us had a time of 12 minutes for the swim.... normally we swim 1/2 mile in 17-20 minutes... I know the swim is slightly less than 1/2 mile... but shaving that much time off? I don't know.... the bike and run were both accurate times for me.... but did anyone else find their swim time was less than it should be? I am not complaining.... but I just hope it was accurate.

The results are now up on the web site. How did everyone do? I had a great time despite my first OWS resulting in my first OWS freakout! Hope everyone is recovering nicely.

Cool

I loved it and had so much fun! I messed up on the swim though... for some reason I couldn't catch my breath... and then I totally swam on the other side of the doc people were getting out of.... the guy had to stop me and redirect me ... it added 3 minutes on to my swim time from 2009 .... the bike and run were great though!

funny you said that because even though I did not do this race, I swam there a few weeks ago and many times while I was swimming I scrapped my hand on rocks (still healing) because it was so shallow!..not sure of the tides

A fun race. The swim was humbling, to say the least. Swimming with 250 or so men, scrapping and flailing was quite interesting. The combination of rocks and low tide made for an interesting swim back to shore. Overall, a great time!! Even saw Boomer finish!

GREATTTT Race. Swim was a challenge with the rocks and the Bike course was kinda beat to HELL but over all it was a fun and fast race. Placed 27th overall. Improved all events from last year. Very happy with my time. Next year I plan to break the top 15......

hi all - this race will be my first triathlon, and the OWS has me pretty nervous. I'm taking swim lessons and plan to do a few practice open water swims prior.

Any advice as to what I can expect in the Bay???!  Thanks

Unfortunately, the Great South Bay is completely unpredictable. May be like glass, may be snotty as hell, all depends on the wind and the tides. Incoming tide and north wind = lotsa chop, incoming tide and south wind = nice conditions; opposite holds true for outgoing tide. I would suggest getting your open water swims in East Islip or somewhere nearby and try to do a couple there so that you get comfortable in different conditions. The water should be pretty comfortable though.

Are you wearing a wetsuit?
