I really want to do it but I need to place somewhere in the Sprint Top 3 in my AG before I make the move up. This might be the year if I can knock out a 23 or 24 minute 5K...

I love it (sprint distance). It really has that sort of big time event atmosphere. CGI goes all out. This race is my annual "A" race.

Only real complaint I ever really heard was the amount of time the Olympic participants had to wait until they started. They would have to wait forever for the Sprint to finish up at the swim start and then they were finishing the run in the late morning sun. But that's not an issue now since the Sprint was moved to Saturday and the Olympic stayed on Sunday.

You should love this race.

Hit the course this morning with three others. Was a last minute thing or would've posted for anyone who wanted to meet. One loop of the bike and the sprint run course was all the time I had. Bike course roads were in pretty decent shape even after the bad winter.

Quakerbridge Road has finally been repaved. It was the worst section of the bike course for the longest time - now? Smooth sailing baby...

This will be my 2nd year doing the Olympic distance also (did the Sprint distance the previous 2 years). I love this race, lots of fun and a great overall atmosphere. The only downside is that it always ends up being so damn hot. Last year was crazy hot - like running through hell. Regardless of temps, I am shooting to beat last year's time - but a cooler day would definitely help!

The misting tent at the end of the run was a godsend!

Did you sign up for the waiting list? Quite a few people drop from the oly to the sprint opening up some spots I think.

I’m really looking forward to this race. I’ve always wanted to do it, but it’s always been the same weekend of the NYC Tri, which I always either race or volunteer for, since it’s in my backyard. I’ve always heard great things about NJ State.

So, for the veterans: Any tips that you can share with us? Places to stay, tips on speeding through check-in, info about the course itself? The website says it’s really flat.

How’s the swim? What’s the likelihood it’ll be wetsuit legal? I’m not competing for a podium spot, so I’d prefer to wear my wetsuit in any case, but if the water’s going to be too warm I don’t want to overheat.

I'm sure you'll love the race as very well organized.

The course is definitely really flat with very few rollers even. You'll want to get there early as it's a bear getting into the park though it was better last year with the sprint moved to the Saturday. Water was right at the 83 degree mark if I remember last year and while not as hot this year so far would imagine it will be within a few degrees of that.

Lots of places to stay within 10 or so minutes of the park. Fairly new Hilton in Hamilton and a whole bunch of places on Route 1 in the Princeton area.

other advice:
* bring throw away flip-flops or prepare to walk slowly to the swim start from transition
* bring a small throw away water bottle while you're waiting at the swim start, any snacks
* roads are in pretty good condition . . . but I did lose my aero water bottle at a turn last year, so I'd have an extra
* there are porta potties at the transition and at the swim start; sometimes it's better to walk to the swim start and queue up there
* usually have a great party afterwards with a live band -- plan to hang out before heading back to nyc

Flip flops or something like that good point as it's a bit of a painful walk over to the start.

X3 on the flip flops to walk to the swim start and using the portable toilets at the swim start instead of at transition.

Last year the water was like bath water.  From what I have read it is most likely not going to be wet suit legal ( but I will bring mine just in case).

For those that didn't get in before it sold out put yourself on the wait list.  I got in off the wait list last year.

I couldn't really stay after I finished the race last year so don't know much about the post race party.

I have another question about parking. I was planning to drive or get a ride to the race on Sunday morning, and then my wife and son would come later and be there for the start.

Are they going to have a hard time getting into the park or finding parking if they show up, say, at 6:30 or 7am? Would it be better if they just came with me? I'd hate to get them up that early if it wasnt' necessary.

My wife has come with the kids before, arriving much later than me. They will have a pretty long walk, but it is definitely doable. They will be directed where to park.

What do people think the odds are for a no-wetsuit swim? Is it a sure thing?

What's the swim like? How's the water? (murky, clear, etc?)

I'm in one of the later waves (M40-44). Is the bike course going to be packed?

I'd say good chance you'll be able to wear one but will probably be in the range where ineligible for awards, etc. Water isn't exactly clear but not dirty or anything so the swim is nice. Starting in our wave will probably mean we will have a fairly clear bike course unless you're crushing it.

Almost definitely a no wetsuit swim. It's like bath-wather. Disgusting, murky, slimy bath-water. You can see less than a foot under water. Actually, if it wasn't so warm I probably wouldn't think it was so bad. But it's sure not poland spring water.

I am in the same wave as you. Yes, there will be a lot of people on the bike course, but, if it's anything like last year, it should be manageable. For the most part the roads are wide enough to pass (or be passed) safely.
