Subject: Questions RE: IMAZ course
I was planning on doing an IMAZ course ride tomorrow morning (very early, before the heat kicks in!). I don't live in the east valley, so hopefully some of you east side cool kids can answer some questions for me.

1) Where is a good place to park at Tempe Town Lake that doesn't require me paying for it?
2) Do the meters on Mill Avenue require payment on Saturdays?
3) Does McClintock, McKellips, Alma School, and McDowell roads have bike lanes on them? If so, are they wide, narrow, full of debris, etc.?
4) Beeline Highway has a wide bike lane, right?

I'm planning on doing a bike ride/run brick, and I'd like my run to be around Tempe Town Lake. That's why I'd like to park near the lake. I know Phoenix is now requiring the meters to be paid downtown on Saturdays, so I wasn't sure if Mill Avenue was doing the same thing. I've only done one ride on the Beeline and that was a year ago. I'm pretty sure I remember Beeline having a nice, wide bike lane, but I don't think we were riding on any of the other IMAZ course streets since we all parked at a park somewhere (I don't remember which park it was). Any suggestions? Thoughts? Opinions? I'm going to try to ride the IMAZ course on Saturdays from now on so I can familiarize myself with it. I find that the more familiar I am with a course, the faster I ride! Your advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, and if anybody wants to join me, I plan on being there insanely early tomorrow. And when I say insanely early, I mean 5:30-6:00AM insane. I'm not an early bird, so waking up at this hour is WRONG in my book! Looks like I better get used to it!

I like to park at Tempe Center for the Arts. Hardy and Rio Salado I think.

Great! I was wondering about that. I didn't know if it was one of those "we will tow your car if you don't work here" parking lots. I'll park there tomorrow.

There is bike lane the whole way out. It's not huge and the sun coming up in the East can make you hard to see for drivers. The bike lane out to the beeline is usually pretty clean but the beeline is hit and miss with debris.

I know a lot of people park at TCA and I've never known anyone to get towed. I'm guessing that there might be other bikers there.

Good luck and be safe.

Thanks! By the time I start, the sun should be up and I hope to be clearly visible. I also hope the traffic is light at that hour. And for the record, waking up at 4AM on a Saturday (or any day of the week, really) is just plain f'ing wrong!!!

How's 4:30am sound?

Damn, I feel like a slug.  Slept in until 5:15 this morning.  it was 95 by the end of my ride.

That was my first time doing an entire IMAZ loop. Not a bad course, and it will be even better when there's no traffic.

It was very strange running around TTL with very few people around. I only saw 2 other runners out there. Only fools run around in that kind of heat!
