Can you give me some info on things to do in Anderson, so I could convince the wife.  I was really looking forward to giving a Rev 3 race a go.

Thinking about doing this one over Augusta in prep for IM FL.  Does anyone know what the water temp will be like in Hartwell in October?  Would choose this over Augusta if it would be wetsuit legal, so I could practice getting some wetsuit open water swimming in prior to IM.  If so, I'm in.  Did Knoxville halfRev last year and loved the family atmosphere, just wished the family was there.  Also couldn't find elevation profiles for bike course -- anyone know if it is more/less hilly than Augusta?

southwestmba - 2011-06-16 5:10 PM I'm in! Looking at doing the REV3 South Carolina double.

NO way to do the double now. Both events are now on Sunday, due to a Auburn home football game on Sat. Hotels should be at a premieum also.

Oh man, forgot all about Clemson football.  I used to live there for a few years and it will be mobbed for sure on Saturday.  They will play Boston College which im sure will draw a crowd of 90,000 or more.

Just checked some of the local hotels there.  Going to run $179 - $200/night in Anderson!!!!  I don't think I paid that much per night when I traveled to Disney World last April.  Anyone know of a special race rate?  Did not see one on the website.

I'm signed up as well. Unfortunately I don't think they're offerieng special rates but I would try calling some of those hotels listed. I'm using points to stay at a Marriott property otherwise they are charging $179 a night. You could try staying further out of town since travel is very easy that early in the morning to save around $100 or so.

Staying in downtown Greenville might be an option for some folks who are looking to keep the family entertained.  30 mintues to the north, up I-85.  The downtown area has a lot going on, great restaurants, shops, and activities - Greenville Zoo, Swamp Rabbit Trail, Falls Park, etc.

I didn't realize that Clemson had a home game that weekend.  Hotel space will absolutely be a premium.  Better start looking now!

A friend told me this past weekend that he was unsure that Hartwell will be wetsuit legal.  He has done a tri in late September on the GA side of Hartwell, and said the water was close to 80 degrees...

I'm on the fence about this race. This whole accommodation issue is wrenching my thoughts. Everyone post up your rates if you've locked down a place. I'd be curious to know whats the better solutions currently.

I'm staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Anderson using points, but the rate is $199. You can easily cut down on price if you stay 20 minutes away in either direction off of 85. Its not that big of a deal race morning since it'll give you time to wake up and you'll be checked out of your hotel anyway. Worth a shot at least.

I locked up the Quality Inn in downtown Anderson at $55/night.  Was by far the cheapest rate I could find - I'm hoping it wasn't a mistake.

I'm attending this!  Looks like it's going to be a great training weekend.  8 training sessions on the actual course. And all SAG/Kayak supported.  Plus food and training presentations.  I can't wait.  I'll feel so much more prepared come race day having been there and done it.

I'm in. I pulled the water temp from The Army Corp. They pull it from a station pretty well south of the swim area. Here are the last few years averages.

Hey guys. So I went to the Endurance Concepts training camp for the Anderson race this past weekend, and let me say that this course is nothing to laugh at. Granted the heat made things pretty difficult (try running the OLY course when it is 109 out, ouch) but the course itself is not designed for the faint of heart.

Swim - point to point circle around the T1 park. Nothing difficult, relatively shallow water and easy to site. Low boat traffic in the area.

Bike - Hilly. It really reminded me of the IMKY bike course as it was very difficult to find a good rhythm. As soon as you settled into a pace/gearing, you were climbing again.

Run - Around the Civic Center area. First 3 miles is weird, around the Civic Center on roads/parking lots/trail running/walking paths. It clears out and is a bit more easy to follow from 3 onward, but the first bit is strange.

All in all, do not expect a walk in the park. If you go out too fast you will pay for it later on. If you race it, race smart, as i said this is nothing to take lightly.

This is surprising that you say this, because the photos on Facebook make both the bike and run appear to be fairly flat.
Thank you for your feed back.

Anytime.

Yes, there are some flat portions where you can get some good speed going, but the course is anything but flat.

If you intend to race, train as many hills as you can.

Hilly is relative. I would call it rolling with plenty of flats.

I did the EC camp last weekend.  Awesome camp, well put on, lots of support!  I have done 3 half Iron distances and I am training this season for a full IM.  As a BOP'er on the run, I typically do well on the bike and am used to some hills in my training.  The Anderson couse is HARD...hills, hills, hills.  You start off going up for awhile and then rollers but then back to hills.  One part goes through a small winding road that is steeply graded and scary down and an out of saddle climb up...I cursed a lot, grumbled a lot and shook my head.  In my opionion this is NOT a beginner course.  The run is lots of small hills too.  Up and down, up and down.  Lots of turns on both the bike and run.  The course is a point to point which means two transition areas which again is going to stress a newbie.  Train hills if you are doing this half and be prepared for slower overall times...Be smart...Take the bike slow and steady, especially the first 13 miles or so...You will need the extra for the run later and for the end of the bike.  Its a nice little town and the Fairfield Inn and other freeway hotels are not far from the race site at all.  All seemed clean and new but basic.  I am not going to do this race afterall but if you are a seasoned veteran you will probably like this challenging course...
