Sunny
Total Time = 3h 42m 37s
Overall Rank = 207/220
Age Group = Cyldesdale
Age Group Rank = 14/15
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4AM. Stayed in Gainesville (18 miles away from race site). Oatmeal, coffee, G2, water.
Event warmup:

Light Stretching. With air temp at 48 it was too cold to get in water for warm up and then stand in the wind before race start.
Swim
  • 53m 50s
  • 1500 yards
  • 03m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Race started 30 minutes later than it was supposed to which mean the racers had to stand exposed to the 48 degree weather for that much longer. 200 yards in to the swim you hit a sand bar you had to wade across(interesting). Swimming is by far my weakest link. Need more practice time. Legs cramped up during the final 500 yards and made for an interesting finish.
What would you do differently?:

Train OWS. Put vaseline on my neck because my swim cap rubbed it raw from the sighting.
Transition 1
  • 05m 6s
Comments:

Thought I was doing good but looking at time it was not good. I did however make sure to get some Gu Chomps down and drink some Nuun to help battle the cramps I was experiencing on the swim.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 43s
  • 24.1 miles
  • 16.12 mile/hr
Comments:

Wind slowed the pace as it felt it was in my face on all of the hills of the first half of the race. 3 miles into the bike I was run off of the road by a dulie dragging a covered trailer as it turned in front of me at the last minute. Luckily there was grass in the ditch I had to dump in to. No serious damage(small bruise and some scratches). Was lucky there.
What would you do differently?:

No go into the ditch.
Transition 2
  • 02m 51s
Run
  • 1h 11m 5s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Right foot was numb for first half mile. Realized I had a bike sock in the toe of my shoe at that point. That is the reason it was numb. Right foot had nerves give out and struggled for first mile getting my foot to properly flex during the run.
Post race
Warm down:

2 BBQ Brisket Tacos. Visit with family for 15 minutes. Then book it out of there to get to airport for 5PM flight to Cancun. A reward for my first Oly Tri.
