Overall Rank = 3/280
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

Two pieces of toast with peanut butter, a banana and a cup of coffee while driving to the race. This is the first race that may fiance has been to in over a year so that was pretty exciting for me.
Event warmup:

Set up my transition area and went for a short run.
Swim
  • 10m 2s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am a terrible swimmer and I don't think that I helped myself by putting in a hard session in the pool on Friday. But hopefully this will get me ready for next weekends West Point Tri

Transition 1
  • 00m 24s
Comments:

Fast transition but not the fastest...
What would you do differently?:

Run out of the TA faster
Bike
  • 48m 17s
  • 18 miles
  • 22.37 mile/hr
Comments:

As usual I hammer the bike to make up for my lost time on the swim. By mile 10 or 11 I was 3rd Overall on the bike. I kept seeing the 2nd place guy ahead of me crest the hills but still remain out of reach. I knew that I would be able to pass him on the run if I came into transition within 30 seconds of him, which I did. My bike has a compact crank, which for this race I think I could have used a standard because I was spinning out on some of the extended downhills.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

I got out of my shoes too early so I road the last half mile shoeless... oh well, I dont think it actually hurt my placing. My run shoes are hard to get on fast so I know that cost me a few seconds in transition... still probably do anything to my placing overall but it may in the future.
What would you do differently?:

Think about getting Zoots or something easier to get into.
Run
  • 18m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 05m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a decent run, but I definitely could have ran faster. I passed the 2nd place guy shortly after transition, did not see anyone on the run until mile 2 when the lead guy was coming back from the turn around, he was flying but I still thought that maybe I would be able to catch him until I got to the turnaround. I realized that I was too far back so I let off on the pace. As it turned out, I placed 3rd overall (which I am perfectly happy with) because a guy in the wave after me beat me. Even if he was in my wave I doubt I would have beat him though.
What would you do differently?:

I ran all right, I think if I would have dug in deeper I could have pulled out a faster run but overall I was happy with it.
Post race
Warm down:

I went for a cool down jog after and then sat on the beach with the fiance until the awards.

Event comments:

This was a great race, the logistics were perfect, awesome volunteers, nice swimming area and beach, pretty bike and fair run.

Excellent finish...you had great splits and Ts.  I thought I did well on the Ts until I saw your times!  By the way, the bike was 19.2, not 18, so you bike time was blazing fast.  Great job.  Maybe see you at West Point.
