Looking to put together a solid race this year...did the sprint last year and am planning on doing the Oly this time around. Would like to improve my bike and go crazy on the run. Welp, a few weeks away, I better get to training. Hope to see some BT'ers out there. I'll be the dude speedo'ing it up sans top

I'll be there, doing the Oly.  Looking to improve my bike and run over this past weekend's race, just less than 4 weeks left!

I'm in for Oly course. Got a big discount on entry fee since I'm LTF member. Can't pass up the deal.

I'm THINKING about this one. My wife's team is doing it, and 1 of her teammates "called me out" for a race. We'll see... If so, I'd be in for the Oly.

I'm doing it again this year!! I'm hoping the water temp isn't as warm as last year though.

I WANT to! But we have a baby on the way (due in 4 days), so my summer is sort of all up in the air. I'll take the races as I can get them!

Anyone else doing this? I wonder if they have fixed up the potholes on the roads.

Big Pothole

I rode the bad part of the course again today.  it appears that they have filled in the potholes on west river rd north of 35th so that is good.  also some of the pot holes have tar in them south of there so maybe they are working their way south.  I still think the worst part is the half mile from about 28th ave. to cedar ave.  they filled in those potholes too full so now they are mini mounds and a couple are more like jumps.  I actually got completely off the ground going over one of them.  That stretch i am not riding in the aerobars.  But if a half mile or less is the only really bad part, then i can live with that.

Ha! Thanks for the plug. I was going to post that here, but I never know if that's right or not...

So I used that coupon code and registered for the SPRINT last night before registration closed! I've done the Oly twice, but never the sprint. Since my wife had Henry nearly 3 weeks ago, I've gotten in some decent, quick workouts, so I should still be set for a shorter race. CAN'T WAIT!!

Were wetsuits allowed last year? With all these hot days I wonder what the water temp will be this year. Is that 78F the key for not allowing wetsuits?

Last year you could wear a wetsuit, but you had to identify yourself and you were taken out of the regular AG.  It was over 78.   I saw a lot of people who did choose to still wear them! (I was volunteering in T area)

Yep water temp was listed as 80 degrees last year. I swam in nokomis yesterday. I don't have the exact temp, but it felt barely cooler than the Y pool, that i swim in, which is 82 degrees. I was hoping it would be wetsuit legal, but I am not holding my breath, with this weather. Now I just hope it is not above 85 air temp at start.

In my memory, the LFT tri is traditionally very hot.  There were a few years when wet suits were allowed, but it's an anomaly.

Checking the minneapolis park district website, they measure the water temp each week on monday. It was only 70.8 on 6/27, but I imagine it would warm up pretty darn quick with the week we've had and the relatively shallow depth. I wonder if/when they will check it next week with the holiday.  I'm going to be ticked if it's up above 78, because I rented a wetsuit for the race under the presumption our crappy weather this summer would continue. I may see if I can cancel, or just bite the bullet and apply the rental fee to the purchase price (hooray, more gear!!Money mouth)

On another, less crappy note, at least the E.coli levels are down this year...

Also, I think I'm going to try to ride the oly course this Sunday morning, probably around 6 or 6:30, if anyone is interested (if someone else says they'll go, then I'll be forced to be there).

Having signed up for the sprint this year, I think I'll be OK without a wetsuit. I like to think that it's around a half mile swim where I can gain from having a wetsuit in the swim while still struggling (and losing time) to get out of in T1. So this .4 mile swim is below my "benefit from a wetsuit" distance. But I've always worn my wetsuit for Olys or longer.

Yeah, as Emily was saying, it's almost always a hot race! The Lifetime Oly was my first ever tri back in 2006, and it was 99 degrees when I finished. They shorted the bike to 22 miles (to which most people said "why bother'), and they shorted the 10K to a 5K (which is HUGE in that heat!). I did a long brick workout yesterday evening as the heat was starting to break, so I HOPE I'm ready for another hot Lifetime!

I was wondering why the website advertises wetsuit rental, as much as it does.  I would be curious to see how many of the past 10 years have even been wetsuit legal.  I know it is still optional.  However if by some freak happening that only 2 other people in my age group enter the event, then i would hate to forfeit my award.  A guy has got to have dreams. (even pipe dreams)

Last year they did not decide until right before the race.

Alright, I'm going to ride the Oly course at 6:30 tomorrow, but I'll take it easy. I have a black Yukon XL, gold helmet (yes, I'm a big Notre Dame fan, sadly) and a silver and blue trek road bike with aero bars

Would love to ride the course but I have 14 miles to run. I'm looking to do it on Monday morning.
