<script type="text/javascript" src="chrome://pickemfirst/content/popupCommunication-inject.js">Is anyone else doing ( or did it previously) the august folsom lake tri?  I am doing the sprint for my 1st race.  is it cold?  do I need a wetsuit?  not a wuss with cold water but I dont want to get whacked with cold or cramps or... on my first tri!

I live and train in Folsom and will be doing the long course tri on the 13th.

I would not worry about the cold water-it will be fine.  I would worry and train for the heat.  For the sprint distance, you will be done before it gets real hot-however it can get bad early if it is going to be a hot one.

I've done quite a few races at Folsom now and heat should be ok but i'd wear a wetsuit in all races possible. Realistically the help a suit provides beats out any few seconds u might save not having to pull it off.

Enjoy the race as it's a fun lake to swim in.

Folsom lake is warm enough for no wetsuit but this tri is on lake Natoma whichis colder.  I would recomend wearing one for sure.  I do OK with a sleeveless in lake Natoma but I can handle cold water OK.

yeah I looked at folsoms temps, but Natoma is colder.... and for my first race, first real OWS, the bouyancy will be key...  any tips on a spot to rent a suit?  besides fleet feet.....  or someplace to try some on and maybe buy?

I only know of Fleet feet but there may be others.  maybe some of the bike shops that carry lots of Tri stuff like bicycles plus in folsom. 

Make sure you rent a Triathlon wetsuit and not a surfing or diving suit.
