Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30 and at the lake at 6. Got transition set up and just wandered around a bit. It was weird to have a 8 o'clock start time with the Olympic going off at 7. But 30 min b4 the race I got suited up and pulled on the speedsuit for my first open water race of the year
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile then climbed in the water for a few min of easy strokes
Swim
  • 10m 59s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim for my overall lack of swim fitness. Rocked the start with a quick lead through the first few bouys then I we slowly passed by the eventual race winner. I hoppe on his heels for a while then he began to gap me. At about the same time the overall #2 guy pulled even with me but he veered off a few times and I beat him back to the beach.
What would you do differently?:

Practice swimming
Transition 1
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Transition started when we entered the transition area instead of out of the water. From the beach We ran up a path 100 yard or so to t1 was passed on the run because I was so gassed from the swim
What would you do differently?:

Run faster to transition
Bike
  • 36m 31s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode pretty well was 2nd out of transition but was quickly passed due to messing with my shoes. Got aero and made a few passes on people in the Olympic. Made the pass back into second and stayed there. Played leapfrog with a guy in the longer race and he prob helped push me along a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to keep training an spending time in the saddle
Transition 2
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

New shoes are zoot owvas and it was my first sock less race so seemed faster
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions
Run
  • 23m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Blah
What would you do differently?:

Run a ton faster... But I didn't have any extra gears today
Post race
Warm down:

Spent some with the family and actually won a plaque for winning
My age group. Was bittersweet I a tally was second in my age group the guy that got second overall wasn't counted In the age group awards

Great job! I thought you guys were speedy fast in the water. I was in awe. And that was the last I saw of you . . .

I was passed on the run up to T1, as well (which was quite a little dash). She was in my age group and ended up beating me overall by about a minute and a half.

Good luck at Mudwater and congrats on the plaque!
