Brim Brothers have one they are testing that is in the cleat of the shoe. I think that has the most promise (IMO).

Ok, that could be misunderstood... not stuck with one cassette, but changing a cassette does take quite a bit longer than swapping crank... Take the Rotor 3D, it's two bolt (8mm & 5mm) that I loosen, remove the non drive side arm, tap the crank off, put it on the other bike, put the NDS arm on and torque everything down. It's 2 minutes... and very, very easy. I'd much rather do that than swapping cassettes on a PT wheel. And yes, I do use different cassettes for different terrain (11-23, 12-25 and 13-26), but I also have different wheels for different terrain... so the cassette stays for the most time.

...and compared to moving two pedals from bike to bike, I would guess that moving a crank would be just as fast and equally easy...

I have a powermeter on my Reynolds Assualt wheel.  I love it but I don't come anywhere close to using it for actual training potential.  When I do intervals, I definitely stay in the power zone for whatever the interval calls for, but interpreting the data is beyond me.  I bought the book and have WKO+, etc.  I just don't have time to analyze it all. I can see the benefit it adds if used correctly.  I've debated selling my rear wheel and just picking up a Reynolds strike or something.

So is the thought that Garmins pedal based meter (Vector) will be available to the public directly after Interbike?  Thinking the Exustar pedals maybe?  Been told someone saw some of the Garmin-Cervelo boys with these.  Is the $1,500. for the bundle?  Certainly they will sell unbundled too?  looking forward to release day for this darn thing.  If it goes much past Interbike I'm pulling the plug and getting something else.  Heck-  Brim Brothers is right around the corner at that point.  Gonna be first to the market wins on this one (at least short term).  Too many people waiting for it to go any other way.  Long run .........who knows.

I don't know if Garmin will release it just yet... either the rumor mill is failing us, or they're simply not ready to release just yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if they will only release it as a bundle. Or if they release the pedals alone, I'm certain they will price it so the bundle looks much more attractive, that's what I would do if I was the product manager at least...

Well there have been a ton of pics from the TDF of the new S5 and it seems difficult to see a PM on the bikes (as in not SRM or Quarq cranks) and not Speedplay pedals sooooo you have to wonder if this is the last big test of the Garmin pedal PM--if so then you would think 4th quarter for release.  That said I think Powertap is still going to be the best bang for the buck solution if you get a "training" wheel (Mavic Open Pro/DT) and run an aero cover for racing (or for those with more $$$ a 404/Hed with a cover).

You are right, PT PRO+ as of August is going to be msrp of $799. Maybe 5-10% off. You can almost have 2 wheels for the price of a Quarq.
