Subject: Brick the Cancer Workout - July 30

Re-posted to remove soliciations.

Anyone who missed the 100 Miles to Nowhere bike ride or who participated and is a glutton for silly workout games and fighting cancer, join us at the brown_dog house for a Brick the Cancer Workout to benefit Athletes for a Cure (the fundraising arm of the Prostate Cancer Foundation) on Saturday, July 30 at 6:30am.

We will ride the approximately 30 mile Roswell Ride, then transition in the Brooks Running Transition Zone (garage) for a 2.75 mile t-run, then repeat the whole shebang two more times for a total of 90 miles of biking and 8.25 miles of running.  We totally stole the idea for this workout from one of Dan Arnett of Endurance Concept's athletes, so you have Dan to thank for the fun and games.  If you only want to do one or two loops or want to start at a different time, just show up whenever and run/ride as long as you like.

6:30am?  Why so early?  July is HOT! And, if you are planning to attend the NAMC Braves game in the evening, you will have plenty of time to work out, mow the grass, take a shower and then enjoy the game with the peeps.

Roswell Ride? Why not Mountain Park?  You are more than welcome to do the bike ride of your choice, or skip the ride portion entirely and just run, but since most folks are familiar with the Bike Roswell Route and my signs for the 100 MTN were an epic fail, we thought it would be simpler to do a route everyone knows.  Don't know the route?  We will have printed cue sheets on hand that you can take in your pocket or copy onto your arm.

2.75 mile run? What kind of distance is that?  It is the distance around the loop from our house.  There are two cul-de-sacs on the loop that you can add to get to an even 3 miles, if you prefer round numbers (Karen).  I'll include this information in the cue sheets also.

Aid Station?  GU Electrolyte Brew, GU Recovery Brew, Chomps and Energy Gel will be available as well as plain water and other aid-station fare.  I will actually make the PB&Js this time.  If you need to stop in the middle of the ride, there is a tidy bathroom and a snack-bar at the Roswell Riverside Park.

Fee? Rules?  As before, no fee.  You will, however, be encouraged to donate to Athletes for a Cure.  Please pmail me if you need (a) directions to the house or (b) the address of Katie's donation page.  As before, whenever you arrive, please also sign-in on one of the waiver pages and hopefully I won't lose the list this time.  You are responsible for your bike and your safety, so please be aware of the cars and bring appropriate tire-change equipment and obey all traffic laws.  Feel free to bring any friends or family who might want to enjoy the day with us.

Schwag?  Maybe, maybe not.  I don't think I can top that beef energy bar.

After-party?  Whose house is this again?  Of course!  You and the family should bring your bathing suits and folding chairs and stick around before, during or after the ride with the kids to run through the sprinkler and enjoy some recovery beverages and BBQ.

The brown_dogs are awesome!  And....I will still be bringing the margarita maker for some Gu Brew virgin margaritas at the aid station.  See you July 30th!  (I will be mentally preparing daily until then)

Me, too.  I like a round number.  There may end up being two mileage options on the bike also.  The 30 mile and the whatever-it-takes-to-make-100 even.  Just because.

Gang, I checked the route mileages on Map-My-Ride:

Roswell Route without Eves:  29.09 per loop

Roswell Route with Eves (turning around, not going through Martins Landing):  31.91 per loop

For folks that want to get to a full 100 (which might be too much, given the hills on the route, since we are running 3x), simply do Stroup Road (goats! with babies!) twice.

OK, so far we have:

Steph, Karen, Katie, Becky, Adam, Greg (on the  tandem), Michelle, Larry, Bil, the Blackmonsl and Justin.  Nat and Isabel are maybies.

Please reply here if you are coming or pm me your email address to be added to the Evite so that I know how much food to purchase.  The GU supplies are on the way, so we will be ready to go!  Some folks have asked about what to bring.  You are not required to being anything, but if you want to bring a side-dish or snack to share, that is great.

You should be done early enough to finish (with shower) in time for the NAMC Braves game or Kate's Cake Party, but are also welcome to hang out with us for afternoon sprinkler action.

I'll be there. But you know me and early mornings - we don't mix. I may start with the second lap. I'll check the temperature forecast closer in and see if that will motivate me to make the effort to rise earlier.

Let me in! I need some serious motivation aka butt-kicking to get me back in the game. Working with others will help me get my mojo back. I might only be in for 2 loops, depending on time, but I am definitely in for the haul.

Whoo! Daniel is in and so is Ellen! :  )

The GU supplies have arrived, so we are ready to go!

Daniel, I may not be in butt-kicking form (especially if it is hot, more like "slowly-but-surely" form), but I'm sure that some of the other riders would be pleased to provide some motivation for you.

I dont care how slow it is, so long as I am moving. Seriously, look at my couch, I think a permanent butt-groove has shaped its way into the cushions over the past month.

Uh......my strategy is to not pass out on the side of the road somewhere.  But seriously, it should still correspond to the Zone 2 stuff our plan calls for.

Ok, so I am actually out. Sorry guys, I wont be training in Roswell this weekend, instead opting to go out to Anderson for a training weekend. Have fun and I will try to meet up next time!

I second the "not passing out on the side of the road"/Z2 strategy.

Daniel, I am sorry we will miss you this time!  Next time, we will motivate you for sure!
