Event warmup:

Stretched
Swim
  • 36m 26s
  • 1931 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty solid swim. I was pleased with my patience early on, never wen't anaerobic, did a great job of drafting and finding feet. Was only solo for about 200 meters on the way back in. Very difficult sighting coming back in because of the sun, but I managed to stay close to people and pretty close to the buoys.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

My earpiece fell off of my helment in transition, wasted time trying to get it on before I finally just pulled the other one off. I also put on socks and calf sleeves to help reduce the rubbing that I've been experiencing in my shoes and to help support my aching left calf.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my sleeves in to the water so that I don't have to put them on in transition and buy a better aero helmet
Bike
  • 2h 38m 15s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.23 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike surpassed my expectations. I thought I would average between 20 and 20.5 mph and to avg over 21 and still feel very comfortable gives me hope that I can go faster.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

I had a great transition. Top 50 transitions overall.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 22m 44s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Fastest Ametuer Run Split of the day. I was a little bummed I didn't have the fastest split overall, but the pro's didn't run in the heat of the day, thus my excuse for not being able to out run them. This was actually my biggest let down of the day b/c I felt I should be able to run a 1:15 off of the bike, even on a hilly course. The heat did get to me though. Thought I was going to redline with 2 miels to go and had to back off so that I could make it in.
What would you do differently?:

Not run in the heat of the day.....
Post race
Warm down:

Swam in the reservoir with Myles.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The Heat.

Event comments:

Great race to do as my first Ironman 70.3. Close to home! Worst thing was the heat which in July, what do you expect

Hey Brendon,

I don't know if you'll get this , but it's me Jen Haynes from Tiffin!  I just happened to be reading the race reports because I plan to do my first 70.3 at Muncie this July and saw yours.  I have only done shorter distances so far.  I am so pumped!  Awesome run!!!  That is how us runners make up time!!  Have you done any more tris since then!!  I am so addicted to them!!  Hope all is well!
