Subject: open-water swimming North Shore of Oahu?

Will be on Oahu from July 23-26 (due to ill-fated Tinman registration, other committments after July 30, and non-refundable air ticket/accomodation fiasco) and am curious if there is any organized open-water swimming (such as a tri club practice) on the North Shore that I could join on one of those dates. It's my understanding that the anticipated plague of jellyfish at the Tinman venue doesn't affect the North Shore??  Failing that, is there anywhere with lifeguards safe to swim close to shore? I'm a strong swimmer and used to open water but I know the waves are bigger on that side....

http://www.hawaiiswim.com/   Looks like you will miss the swim events, I live on Kauai but I'm sure you will find that you can swim easily without an event or a group of people. No big swells in the summer it is beautiful and may find yourself looking for turtles and other beautiful sealife...

kailua is a good place to swim.

normally the jellyfish issue is pretty much limited to the man-0-wars, which aren't much of a problem compared to the box jellies.  I haven't had any bother me lately.
