Subject: bike stores in metro atl for tri bikes
I am looking to buy a tri bike soon (I have been using a road bike).  I am trying to find a shop that has the widest variety of bikes so after I get fitted I will have choice in the bike I buy.  I have noticed some shops only carry 2 or 3 brands in tri bikes.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Also, besides getting the bike that fits the best, are there any brands that you like better than the others.

You will not find one shop with a huge variety due to how bike brands are "franchised".    I would suggest getting fitted and figure out what works.  Different bike brands have different fits.   Huge difference between a Scott and Specialized.  You do not want to buy a Trek only to find it was not the best bike for your optimal setup.  Big investment of money, so take the time and make sure you spend wisely.

You can pay for a fit at Podium or All 3 Sports.  I think the board will agree they have some of the best fitters.  There may be a few other shops, but the everyday LBS is not going to be much help or trusted help on tri fit.  Once you know your fit, it makes it easy to shop around and not worry about the shops ability to setup a bike or get the "right one".

If you care to research, SlowTwitch.com  has some great information on fitting plus bike reviews.

Honestly, your best bet is to travel to different stores and figure out which brand and shop you like the best. It's possible you may like Brand X bike but the staff at the store was snobby OR you l-o-v-e the staff at ABC store but their brand of tri bike doesn't fit you well. Buying a tri bike is a big investment so ideally you find one that fits and a shop you like too.

With that being said there are a couple of reputable shops that carry tri bikes: (and I'm not sure where you live) All3sports in Dunwoody, Roswell Bikes in Roswell, Cycleworks, Reality Bikes in Cumming and a shop in Peachtree City but I've forgotten the name.

As far as brands, Cervelo is very popular and they sell them at All3sports.

Hope that helps - bike buying is fun!

I will get a fit first, but I was under the impression that the bike store will only tell you what fits best out of what they carry.  I would like to know what fits best out of all the brands and then go find the bike at any of the stores.  Am I wrong in thinking they will only tell me what fits best out of their selection?

EXACTLY!  Just get a fit independent of buying a bike from All3Sports or Podium.  You will pay for it, but work the investment.  They will both attempt to sell you a brand they carry, but you can simply tell them you want to shop.  I would not trust a normal shop with a fitting.  Tri bike fit can be tricky and there is more science than a road bike.  Go to the specialist, figure out what works, then shop for best combination of brand and store.

Easy answer: Get a Retul bike fit at all3sports.

Extended Answer: all3sports does a solid retul fit. Up front cost is $250 but if you end up buying a bike from all3sports then $175 of that goes towards the purchase of a bike (or at least the last time I checked). They do the Retul fit first, then they take the measurements off of the Exit bike (fully adjustable bike thing) and compare to the database that Slowtwitch created.

They will suggest the best frame that fits, even if they don't sell it! all3sports works well with several other shops in the area that sell bikes and brands that they do not, so they are able to refer you to a different shop if you happen to fit a Specialized (since all3sports doesn't sell Specialized... as an example).

There is also a new store called Cadence on Sandy Spring Circle.  I believe they have some new thing that is kinda like Retul to fit you and help you decide best bike to buy.  Also believe they are selling bikes that are not "common" on the tri scene.

A follow up question would be if I get fit at say all3sports but buy a bike from LBS, will LBS set up my bike based on my fitting from all3sports?  Will LBS charge me extra to set up the bike if I was not fitted there?

I would hope that the LBS would not charge you extra for setting up the bike to your measurements... however I guess that is up to the LBS.

I do know that all3sports gives you a copy of your fit so you are able to take it to your LBS if you decide to buy there.

Sorry that is probably not much help... but every shop you go to will probably operate a bit differently.
