Swim
Comments: Started at the back of the pack as this was my first Tri. Started off really slow as everyone was bunched up and going slow. Once things stretched out a bit I was able to keep a pace alone for most of the rest of the race. What would you do differently?: Start towards the front as I'm a stronger swimmer that I expected. Also I'd like to be able to swim for longer intervals before breaking and looking where I'm at. Work on sighting and not doing so many breast strokes. Transition 1
Comments: Ran to rack which was right next to bike exit, but I had the far spot up against the curb. Since I have my road shoes, I've never rode without socks so I put those on first after stepping on my towel to dry my feet. Easily put on helmet then glasses, grabbed bike and ran to "on bike" line. Never tried a flying squirrel so I just stopped, hopped on bike, clipped a foot in, then took off. What would you do differently?: Get new tri specific shoes and ride without socks. Learn to running mount to bike with shoes clipped in. Bike
Comments: Nice ride, but already had a high heart rate going into it. Transition 2
Comments: Stop on bike then dismount and run with shoes on. What would you do differently?: Jumping off moving bike and running without shoes on. Have shoes with quick ties to speed up transition Run
Comments: Very difficult run as the heat was getting bad at this point. Walked way more that I wanted to. What would you do differently?: Drink more fluids, and push myself harder Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat and not enough training. Last updated: 2011-07-17 12:00 AM

As this was my first Tri, I got to the race sight early as I was sure what to expect. Laid out my materials as logically as I could figure out from various race reports I've read and hints from fellow triathletes.
10 min run at moderate pace.
